SynopsisPortsmouth 1782. Now captain of the frigate Phalarope Bolitho deals with a mutinous crew and fights in the Battle of Saintes., Portsmouth, 1782. His Britannic Majesty's frigate, Phalarope, is ordered to assist the hard-pressed squadrons in the Caribbean. Aboard is her new commander--Richard Bolitho. To all appearances the Phalarope is everything a young captain could wish for, but beneath the surface she is a deeply unhappy ship--her wardroom torn by petty greed and ambition, her deckhands suspected of cowardice under fire and driven to near-mutiny by senseless ill-treatment., Portsmouth 1782. Now captain of the frigate Phalarope, Bolitho deals with a mutinous crew and fights in the Battle of Saintes.

  • Centerpiece of the Bolitho Series

The compassion and values of the series' hero, Richard Bolitho, are clearly and compellingly portrayed in this book. Key figures like Allday & Herrick come into the narrative, and the action is comtinuous. The battle scenes are wonderful, and the connection with a critical historical battle is believable. A quick, interesting "good read."

  • Good British Navy read during Napoleonic wars and American Revolution

Anyone who has made it through Patrick Obrien's Aubrey Maturin series, and wants to go to a lighter weight version of events in the same period, should seek out the Bolitho novel series.
