    Classic Affordable Overdrive Pedal

The main difference in a Tube Screamer and the Boss SD-1 is the type of clipping. SD-1 utilizes asymmetrical clipping, and a Tube Screamer uses symmetrical clipping. They both have a mid-hump as for as the EQ curve. You can use them both as boosts into other pedals or amps. As straight up overdrives, the Tube Screamer often sounds like a layer of dirty and a layer of clean, where as with the SD-1, you get the single layer of dirty because of the circuit's clipping type. Either are great. Some prefer one over the other. I have both the TS and the Boss. Either work great with many configurations, and in some cases you might prefer one to the other with a particular setup. I have more than one tube amp, and I have a variety of pedals that I use on this one or that one.

    A nice little tool

While it's not quite an Ibanez Tube Screamer the two of them in series with a Boss EQ going out makes some magical tones! Con's, I see none thus far. Pro's, it definitely cuts the cake!

  • SD-1...Still the one

I've played just about every type of OD/Distortion circuit out there. For the money, and even regardless of price, the Boss SD-1 is still the pedal to own if you want to play lead guitar with some sustain and overdrive. As far as I know, they haven't changed the circuit in 35 years. And for about 50 clams, it's the OD to have if you're going to have one on your board. I've been playing strats for 45 years. I used to be a "purist", guitar-cable-amp. Now, this is my go-to pedal after many years of trying to coax and tweak a smooth overdrive tone out of the various tube amps I've owned and played. Want to just play and enjoy your tone? Buy a Boss SD-1 and stomp on it!

  • Great value

I've been playing electric guitar for around seven years and am kind of a tone snob. I use this pedal to boost a fuzz pedal and it works great; it helps to fill in some of the mids on my fender amp. The od tones aren't too shabby either. This pedal is also cheap (about 1/2 the price of a tube screamer which is essentially the same pedal), and can't really be beat if you're on a budget.

  • Exceptional product!

Is this product good value for money? DOUBTLESSLY SO! Was it easy to change the pedal by soldering etc? It was a little tricky at times but if you've ever soldered successfully in your life before then this is completely possible. Above all, the instructions for doing it were really good. Does this actually change the sound of a stock SD-1 and how much different is the sound? This customization changed the sound of the stock pedal into a louder, stronger and very different pedal. I own two and changed one of them. I feel like I have two completely different OD pedals. Thank you for making these kits and for making it so easy to install them!

  • It is lightweight, only 3 knobs, & is great

Works super with vintage OD-1 which I had since the '80's !!! Works well by itself as well!! Tone control is key: knocks out much of mid range "squawk, " if one can exp. & tweak the other 2 knobs on it. Two OD's in series can be a little too much for some to handle; turn down the DRIVE's a little more. It has the sound I'm looking for, as opposed to actual distortion -- too heavy & saturated, SD-1 has that bite that I like!! (looking for a setting for the mid-range cut; I will find it soon!) Love it...

  • Classic overdrive in a box

I bought the SD-1 to boost a HM-2 heavy metal pedal that I have. It gives it a nice treble boost while giving a more organic sound to your tone. The Super Overdrive is good as a main rhythm distortion to just giving a little bit of bite to your sound. The overdrive itself does tighten up the low end a bit much but with lower tunings or bassy set ups it helps tighten and clear up the low end. I wish it had more low end naturally but its meant for brightening and or bringing clarity in the high end. Its awesome as a booster pedal and helps push the gain further on a pedal or amp. This should be a basic overdrive pedal that most should try. Awesome price for the awesome tone you get for it.

  • Better than expected!

I always heard "Boss" was the way to go! Now I know why. This SD-1 is performing beyond expectations on my acoustic guitar with Fishman pickups. The boost is great, just what I needed to add that 'pop' to my small Tea Shop Venues!

  • As good as any

Save your money and get one of these. Even works on the gain channel of a solid state amp. No other more expensive boost does any better. I have used in mesa marks, engl, framus cobra, peavey...
