Compressor helps bring the guitar to the forefront
I'm using the compressor on an acoustic/electric Ibanez, and it gives more "presence" to the sound as it competes for audibility in the group, usually dominated by a piano. Adds to sustain somewhat, but primarily it helps bring some crispness to the guitar.
