    Great product, missing eq control.

I love the tone I get out of this pedal. Keeps everything nice and clean while adding that natural sustained feel . Makes all your notes ring out quite well and the sustain can even create a swelling effect on chords that are held out. Can be used effectively to bring the tone out of any guitar. Additionally I would love for it to have eq control in order to bring out certain frequencies, but it does a great job regardless.

    Nope

Just no- simple as that- nope. Sounds cheap and artificial and you can't seem to dial in the attack properly- you end up with it sustaining notes in an unnatural way and tons of noise form your fingers sliding on the strings- the pick attacking the note, etc. And I can't seem to dial it out- if I do, then it's not really compressing properly. My other compressors- much, much better- I can easily dial out all that unwanted noise without messing up my ratio, and when it sustains a note, it sounds right. Get a Keeley, get a Vertex, get a Xotic- if nothing else buy a budget Mosky C4- but don't get this.

  • Works great

I have tediously tried many bass compressor pedals and just couldn't find the one that I was comfortable with. You want a lot of sustain and a nice punchy but squashed signal for most rock or metal. I had been very impressed with the boss cs-3 for my guitar and wondered if there were a bass version. I stumbled accross the bass smasher which is a modified version of the cs-3 and felt very confident it would do what i wanted. It performs beautifully. The only reason i dont give it a five star is because it can still be a little noisy if dial up to high. But if you know how to use noise suppression gear this won't really bother you. I imagine when compressing notes with high sustain its very difficult to get rid of all the noise. Highly recommend for a cheap and easy way to get balanced tone and high sustain. Great job Humphrey Audio keep it up!

  • Straight forward

Straight forward and easy to use. Can be a little shrill if not used correctly but just work that eq a bit and you'll get it right. Can get a good chicken pickin' / country squash or just make your notes ring and sustain a bit more. Great to add balance and presence to arpeggios and and rhythm guitar. From my experience with a p bass and drum kits, it's not so hot, there's probably a better option, but for live it'd probably fine.

Good compressor pedal, Boss is always high quality. Only thing I'd look out for is if you're getting an old/vintage one make sure to test out different voltages. a regular 9v adapter usually doesn't work and you should try the 12v or the 9v battery pack, worked great for me.

  • Awesome Sauce!!!! Good price, Great shipping, Sounds great!!

It surprised me in the way these two effects (compression and sustainer) were put together. Definitely has it's own type of sound. Sounds great. No problems.

  • Best compressor pedal ever!

Can't believe how well these sound compared to many other brands. I was a die hard Ibanez pedal fan for many years until they stopped making them. And the pedal boards while convenient just don't always produce the same sound quality as much as they say they do. Some will argue they do but to my ear they just don't. Boss for me makes the most amazing pedals and you're getting exactly what you pay for. Cheap knock offs are just that and it shows over time!

  • Not happy with it at all, and I would not recommend this pedal

There is absolutely nothing wrong with the product that I bought 2nd hand used. I just do not see the cost of a new one or a 2nd hand one worth buying. The 4-control knobs are (1) Volume, which all pedals have, and no big deal, (2) Tone control just gives you slightly more or less trebble or bass - very slightly, also no big deal (3) Pick Attack is totally not noticable, and that is a big deal - worthless, (4) Sustain is for how long a note will ring and ring. It works OK, but who needs that much continued sound? What I also noticed is when you turn this knob up slightly, then you will hear more harsh bad noise from your strings, especiqally the sqeeking noise of yuor hand sliding on the strings and all that noise gets real loud. So, I have it turned all the way off. Would I recommend it? No, but try it for yourself, and you decide. Maybe if you play very loud in a band, then you may like it.

  • Couldn’t be happier

Needed a compressor, this one does the job just fine. Incredible price. Lots of tape on the box, but I’m fine with that if it was done to protect it during shipping. Had more good things to say but eBay decided that some good words are unacceptable. They just want money.

  • Squash!

Ok... I have the MXR M87 , but wanted to try this, and i did and it TOTALLY put the stoppers on my out of control D and G strings. I've never heard a compression pedal that squashes this much... I would keep this pedal even if i still used the M87 on my bass... It's the best pedal ive ever heard for compression, hands down, so i never have to worry about my instruments needing compression again... say i decide to pull out the mandolin for a show, now i have a comp pedal on the ready for it. The attack and the other knobs are very responsive, more than any other comp pedal ive used. Well done. I like the blue LED too.
