Holds up well, even in 2018

Background: Picked up a motherboard bundle of a Socket AM3 board with RAM, higher-end heatsink and a Sempron 145 CPU. After some testing, determined I really needed a better CPU in there. Enter this. Going from a single 2.8GHz core CPU to a 4-core is already a marked improvement in usability and overall responsiveness. Hard to argue the bargain I got it for. Included cooler performs better than I believed it had any right to, keeping the chip at a max of 52C loaded with Prime95, which is astounding. Still performs plenty fast for what I need it to do. Seems to handle encoding on OBS load a fair bit better than a Core 2 Q6600, that's for sure. Not even a hint of hiccups for longer Twitch streaming (streaming *to*, not just streaming from).

A cheap final upgrade for older AM3 motherboards to keep them around for light office work

This processor is close to the most powerful processor that you can install on some AM3 motherboards. (And, it currently cost about half of what a Phenom having 20% more preformance would cost). It would probably be useful for word processing and email, but I wouldn't expect much more out of it these days. An operating system that is less resource-intensive than Windows, such as Linux, might even be a better option with a system using this processor.

  • Breathed new life into an older computer

Installed this in an older computer which was previously equipped with an Athlon 64 X2 CPU, also added a low-cost discrete graphics card. Before the upgrade the poor thing really struggled with Windows 10, but now it's much faster and smoother, especially with video content. Of course it's not going to be competitive with most new hardware, but it does provide a very cost-effective upgrade for an older machine.

  • next time please package it properly

the chip itself was great after i straightened the bent pins. no reason for it to be shipped wrapped in paper.

  • Excellent

Performs exactly as described, great price for a used part to replace my old CPU that finally failed after using for 6 years.

  • Like New performance

I upgraded my motherboard with this, took off without a hitch. Warning: you will lose settings for some apps. Apparently the cpu is fundamental to memory of setting and preferences.

  • AthlonII X4 630 a good upgrade.

Excellent performance for an old cpu and overclocks like a charm. I needed the additional cores for emulation. The IPC is identical to the X2 chips.

  • Pins bent

Due to bad packing for shipping chip pins were damaged in Shipping. Was able to straighten with patiance and time . have not able to get it to mount yet, hopefully no damage to chip

  • AMD Athlon II X4 in 2016

While slow and inefficient by today's standards, you can find this chip dirt cheap! Performance-wise, it's only 10-30% slower than the FX-4300. This makes it great for many budget oriented configurations, and it works in new AM3+ motherboards.
