    Lightweight, Makita quality

This is a perfect choice for people owning any type of 18V Makita equipment around. The battery capacity is more than enough for a small and medium size garden. The only issue is the fitting of the cutting head as the bolt diameter is M8 preventing the use of the cheap universal nylon heads, widely available on ebay, which use M10 bolt size. The two speed control is perfectly enough in normal cutting situations and the rotation speed control is very useful. This means that the spindle speed remains more or less constant under various load conditions which gives the feeling of the power in your hand.

    Good quality, poor design.

I have a wide range of Makita tools and have always been impressed with their quality and durability. This trimmer remains satisfactory from that point of view. However, what is definitely a problem compared to other strimmers I own, is the angle of the cutting head which instead of moving parallel to the ground for an even, consistent strim, seems angled down with a tendency for the line to dig in and gouge the grass/soil. Obviously, the position of the head can be adjusted by lowering or raising the strimmer on its strap but this is very basic indeed and doesn't achieve the desired result anyway. For the cutting head to move parallel to the ground requires the strimmer to be operated at a height of just a couple of feet - and I am a fairly ordinary 6-footer! Perhaps a shorter person could get on with it but I can't and it's a real pity because the brushless Makita motor with a 5 or 6ah battery can do a significant amount of work and that makes struggling with the design particularly annoying.

  • Lightweight and well made.

I bought this because I was finding my petrol model to be very heavy and this Makita is exactly half the weight. It has plenty of power but obviously not as much as the petrol one in overgrown jungle. The batteries last a fair amount of time - I use 2 x 5amp hrs. Would recommend to anyone getting older like me who does not want to fight with a more powerful model.

  • Simple, easy to use & does an excellent job

Quiet efficient & very easy to use. Has 2 settings hare & tortoise. But I’ve only ever needed the slow setting. I find It’s light & nicely balanced. Far better than my previous petrol versions. I was always a Lithium Ion fan for tools but now also for garden equipment.

  • Lightweight with great features

Tired of mixing two stroke, hurting your shoulder starting a temperamental, and heavy petrol strimmer? Then buy this, I have a very large garden with a lot of grass, and also cut the road banks as the council can no longer be bothered. This machine did the lot on one charge!! Then have a cuppa and a biscuit whilst recharging your batteries 35-40 mins max and your ready to go again, so impressed I have also bought the chainsaw that runs off the same two batteries. Only downside is ensure you purchase a large reel of replacement line as it gets through it very quickly.

  • Makita strimner

Good build quality but handle a bit fiddly to assemble hence 4stars arrived quickly and a beast in hare mode . No quite as powerful as my 52cc petrol one but more environmentally friendly, already had 5amp batteries so no brainier. Auto line feed works well and usual Makita tool quality I have the 36v mower to go with it just swap over batteries and carry on recommended for anyone already having Makita batteries as I have 12 no more expense but budget another £100 for two batteries if you do not have any.

  • Really powerfull

Excellent quality machine. Running two 3 amp batteries in tandem gives a lot of power. Quite light considering. Easy to use. Had it running for around 20 mins and only put out one of 3 'power left' indicators. Best of all the user is not stood in a haze of blue fumes from a 2-stoke engine.

  • Fantastic piece of kit

Slightly heavier than 18 V trimmers but a true substitute for noisy fume generating petrol ones plus it has advantage of 2 set speeds and reverse to help untangle wound up weeds on head. Not to mention more environmentally friendly - grandson approves and is now doing most of the work. Fuel cost is a lot less than petrol when you work it out.

  • Better than a petrol machine

This thing is awesome, has soo much power i only need to use it on the lowest setting ! Quiet, lightweight. Downside is you need 2 working makita batterys to use it
