Excellent TV technology
The Chromecast with Google TV turns an ordinary TV into a full blown Android TV, provided you have an HDMI connection on the TV. Performance is excellent, streaming is great - no delays -, apps can be downloaded to extend features and access to local network drives allows playback of your pictures, music or videos. You don’t need a TV antenna anymore!
I just moved to a new house that didn’t have a TV antenna installed on the roof. A friend told me I don’t need an antenna anymore, so I saved hundreds of dollars for installation and instead paid a comparatively small price for this Google Chromecast. The set up was so easy, and the remote control is easy to navigate. I love being able to either choose apps on the TV or cast from an app on my phone. I can watch live TV or streamed shows. 100% worth it
We have a Hisense TV that doesn't have many apps (Disney+ and Binge I'm looking at you) and this turns it into a proper full function smart TV and I can link my various streaming subscriptions to it. It also plays well with the other older Chromecasts in the house. Really easy to set up using the Google Home App on my Samsung S10. So much more than just a Chromecast. Great - You Need Google Home App To Use.
Reasonably easy to set up and works well. Main reason for purchase was to watch Disney + with the use of a remote on a TV that did not offer the app, which both work very well. You will need a device with the Google Home App. Don't assume your Android device can get this app, it was not supported on my Samsung Galaxy J3. Thankfully I have an iPad Air (about a year older than the phone) which did support the Google Home App. The need for this app was not mentioned anywhere in any of the descriptions, details or specifications - on any supplier, not just the one I purchased through. Love this thing
I have owned other devices from earlier Android-based, thru Apple-TV plus Chromecast etc. I was really impressed by the Vodafone-TV device when they were available. 4K, all the apps, great casting etc. Had two of them making ordinary TV's great. When it was discontinued I was searching for a replacement (I wanted a third) when Google announced the Chromecast with Google TV. I love this. Still testing to see if better value than the Google-TV but happy so far and integration with all things Google plus a neat personalisation makes for a great piece of kit. This is awesome! I used to use apps on my phone to watch streaming TV but it was very clunky, this puts all of my apps on the same place including Mubi which I was very happy about. Simple set up and easy to use. Disappointed the remote cannot control the TV volume though. I have a Chromecast v1 that from recollection seemed much harder to get going, so this plug and play scenario was a really good change.
