Watch and listen to all your shows and songs with the 1st generation Apple TV 40 GB digital media streamer. With this small white set top box, you’re able to connect your television with the iTunes account on your PC or Mac and enjoy your favorite movies and tracks through your home entertainment system. Rather than always streaming your movies, shows, and music, the Apple TV comes with a built-in 40 GB hard drive for local storage. This way, you have unfettered access to the equivalent of 9,000 songs or 50 hours of video stored right there. Control and navigation of the Apple TV is done through the standard Apple Remote. To get your Apple TV set up, it requires connections to both your television and the iTunes account on your home PC or Mac. Connecting to your iTunes account and Internet is possible either by an 802.11n wireless network or through a 10/100Base-T Ethernet cable. As for linking up the Apple TV A1218 to your television, you conveniently have several options including HDMI, optical audio, and component video cables. To enjoy movies and TV shows at high definition resolutions like 720p and 1080p, you need to ensure you’re connecting to high-definition widescreen televisions capable of supporting these higher resolutions. Apple TV is compatible with a range of TV manufacturers, including but not limited to Sharp, Toshiba, NEC, and LG. There’s also no concerns about being able to watch movies and TV shows, since the device supports videos purchased from the iTunes Store, as well as ones in H.264, up to 1280p, and MPEG-4, up to 720p, formats. jailbroken has many great positives but is not always the answer
We love many things about the three jailbroken apple TV's we have. The biggest issue is streaming. Sometimes it is great and sometimes it stops and starts. We would love live TV and many shows don't work. Easy to use once you spend a lot of time. Overall experience is positive. It can replace Netflix and is better. Too outdated to be of much use.
This version of Apple TV was so limited and proprietary that it is of little use with anything modern. I was hoping to be able to at least use it to view YouTube on an older television. You would have to have composite video inputs on an older TV, although the analog audio outs could be useful if connecting to an older analog stereo system. This might be the only saving grace of this device. There are hacks available for modifying the device to using XBMC, but the box has limited RAM on it so that it is smaller than a Raspberry Pi, which might be more appropriate for XBMC. YouTube does not appear to function on the device. You have to run this with a computer using iTunes to get any content to stream to it. It is nothing as functional as the more recent generations of Apple TV. Had I known how limited this was, I would not have purchased one. I expected it to be somewhat lesser than Apple TV 2, but this is practically obsolete. It won't run Netflix. I won't connect to YouTube. Good but far from perfect
As all hacker software, this allows you to do just what you want but it runs with some quirks. Some links seem quick to disappear but others seem to work rock solid. I saved weeks of my trial-and-error time by having a skilled person assemble what I needed in a fool proof package. Movie access in Kodi is amazing. A must for families with Apple Products!
I have wanted one for a few years and finally bought the latest model, it's fantastic! Sorry I waited so long. We can stream our home videos and pictures wirelessly from our Apple devices, or HD television from any website as well as you tube and anything else you have on your screen. We were streaming episodes of Pitch all last weekend from a Fox website included in the Apple TV menu and I also caught a few episodes of Comedians in cars getting coffee with Seinfeld from the internet as well (all HD pictures with good sound quality to boot), this is the missing link between your iPhone / Ipod and your HD TV, and it's not very expensive. Great TV add-on as a media box
Although it's outdated. It was a purchase to be set as a media box on TV. One of the last and/or few TV box piece of tech with a built in hard drive, it allows second life with open source software installation or just a streaming media link to your TV.
