About this product

Product Information

In Mega Man Xtreme 2, you take control of either Mega Man or Zero through eight levels inspired by the first three Mega Man X games. Each character's mission consists of four levels, and when one mission is complete, you automatically begin the other character's quest.

At a research facility on Laguz Island, there have been reports that reploids' memory and programs are being erased in a phenomenon known as "ERASURE." Mega Man and Zero are sent to investigate and discover that many of the reploids have stopped functioning, while others have become Mavericks. It seems that a mysterious new enemy has developed DNA chips that can be used to revive previously defeated reploids, including powerful bosses of the past. Mega Man and Zero spring into action, ready to defeat whatever comes their way and restore order back to the reploids.

As in previous Mega Man titles, defeated bosses leave behind a weapon that can be used to exploit other bosses' weaknesses. In an addition new to the series, when standard enemies are killed, they often leave behind traces of "DNA Soul." These traces can be picked up and used to create items and power-ups between levels. Mega Man and Zero can also find special upgrades hidden throughout the stages.

  • Great recreational Mega Man X game

Xtreme 2 follows the style that Xtreme 1 set. This game takes place after X3 and before X4 and uses stages/bosses from X1 through X3. The stages aren't carbon copies of their original stages, as some are combination levels in a way. Neon Tiger from X3 is in the game but his stage has elements of his own stage and Sting Chameleon from X1 for example. What's great is that X and Zero are playable characters, but initially you can only play X Mission or Zero Mission. X has 4 Mavericks he fights, then final stage castles. Zero has a different set of 4 bosses then the final stage castles. Both have their own final boss as well. When you beat both games, you get Xtreme Mission. Now both are playable, all 8 Mavericks are available and the true final boss shows itself at the end of the final castle stages. This increases replayability well enough. Also Iris is debuted in this game. She's your Alia/Roll and best at it since she never annoys you with game mechanic banter. Also there are boss abilities, armor upgrades and custom parts you can get for both X and Zero. There are Light capsules for armor upgrades in every stage, defeating enemies can drop DNA Souls to use as money to buy customization parts, sub-tanks and heart pieces. Even Zero can Light Capsules from the stages are normally Zero Mission levels. What's important to note however, is that it is BEST if you split the heart tanks, custom parts AND BOSS ABILITIES, between the 2 when you are playing Xtreme Missions, unless you are really confident. If you beat a boss with X, Zero will not get the boss ability and vice versa. If you get a heart tank with Zero, X will not have it and vice versa. If you spent all your money buying Zero custom parts, then X will be lacking and vice versa. Xtreme Mode will kick your butt hard if you don't give both characters their share of the pot. Unless you are REALLY confident because the final castle is no joke. Easily one of the best X series games if you ask me. Even though you have the play the game twice to get to the true game and true ending, but its a pretty fun game worth its effort. Game is available on the Nintendo 3DS eshop for 4.99 I believe. But I wanted a physical copy myself. Its a great X game and shouldn't be ignored just because it is a Game Boy Color game.
