  • Best bang for the buck

This is a great CPU. I replaced a Xeon X5670 with one of these and went from 4.2GHz to 4.5GHz. With that sort of OC on 6 cores, these hold their own against 6th and 7th Gen I7s, plus you have triple channel memory. These 1st gen, X58 setups may be the best bang for you buck right now. These can easily keep up with a GTX 1070 GPU and play games on max. Used to be good boards were really expensive, but prices are dropping. If you need to get a board, be sure it has USB 3.0 and SATA III, especially the SATA III. That will let you run a SATA III SSD as your system drive. In Cinebench R15 the CPU managed a multi-core score of 1013, which puts it in the same range as a the i7-7700K 8 thread cpu, as well as the i7-4930K and i7-5820K 12 thread cpus. In PC Mark 8 it scored a 4549 (81st percentile) in the Home benchmark, and a 5229 (90th percentile) in the Work benchmark. In UserBenchmark the CPU ranks in the 88th percentile. Not bad for a CPU that costs under $75.

  • 5 stars generally, 4 stars for Mac Pro: special care needed if you're upgrading a Mac Pro tower (4,1 or 5,1)

Mac Pro towers have by default de-lidded cpus, done by Apple to make things More Difficult. To upgrade you either need to delid your upgraded processors, or do some tricky adjusting of the thermal sensor connector on the heat sink (see youtube for some good videos on that). Do NOT try to delid these processors - many forums/youtubers say they're glued on and can be delidded using razors. WRONG. These are soldered and you'll just break them if you try. So adjust your heat sink connectors carefully instead and you'll have a very very fast Mac Pro.

  • The most cost effect way to upgrade your Mac Pro.

If your considering upgrading your 2010 - 2012 Mac pro the X5680 is the most cost effective way. Two of these matched average cost is around $100. Sometimes you can even find them for about $85 a pair. The maximum size you can install in 3.46 GHz but the price would be double the cost for processor and the speed difference would barley be noticed. If your doing a 2009 you would need to find them delidded. If you want to save about $150 go with the X5680

  • Good CPU chip for dual CPU Mac Pro 2009, flashed from 4,1 to 5,1

Very easy to install. The user should get extra tool and thermal paste since this product does not provide any of that, just a pair of x5680 de-lid CPUs suitable for MacPro 2009.

  • Mac Pro rockin with 3.33 ghz 12 core :)

This is my second upgrade CPU upgrade I did to my 2009 mac pro. It was not super easy as it would be in a 2010 mac pro, but after some adjustments to the heatsinks all is working great. Geekbench scores single 64 bit 2704, multi cores score 30909. Keeping the best alive at least a few more years especially combined with a GTX 980ti :)

  • Boosted performance

Perfect upgrade to boost Mac Pro's performance to a new level. Easy to install. Now all my apps run much faster and video rendering is a breeze especially when extra memory is added. Ths is the best upgrade option you can make to a 2009-2012 Mac Pro.

  • Easy install for faster speeds

This is worth every dollar in terms of speed and reliability but gains extra credit for being a super easy install. There was no messing around trying to de-lid it manually and possibly damage it. Definitely worth paying more for the upgrade.

  • Pleased.

Installed in about 15 minutes. We were careful with the thermal paste. Mac (early 2009 4,1 5,1) booted right up and immediately recognized the "new" CPU. Temps are well within operating specs. Pleased.

  • X5680- works as advertised

X5680- Well packaged. Posted fine and is working as expected. I dropped into an older hp z400. It posted quickly and works great. I also got 1333 MHz memory speed over the 1060MHz with the w3550.

  • Intel Xeon 5680's

Very happy with my purchase of 2 CPU's for my Mac Pro 5,1. They are of great quality and were packaged very well in protective cases. I will be sticking to these guys for my future Processor purchases👍👍
