    New F1

Purchasing this camera some 35 years after it's release, and having been involved in photography for some 45 years in a mostly amateur level, and after owning a few of Nikon f3's, (which this one was competing with), i was pleasantly surprised. Tho, the f3 is easier to handle, and more ergonomic, and the winding mechanism superior, as is the viewfinder, (back) blind. I found this camera to feel amazing in the hand, and stunning to look at. The one aspect i did not like is the depth of field preview, or stop down mechanism. for the time i think retro, and also with the finder it came with i disliked the appendage on the prism side for the auto-winder. Viewfinder superior to the f3. Fs's crystal readout a bad, bad choice. The fact it has a hybrid shutter trumps nikon in a big way. Why did they go to all the trouble of making a superior camera and leave this out??? The battery compartment on F1, another negative. However it is a fine professional instrument, made extremely well.

Took some tinkering but a decent value.

Had to get it checked out cause the shutter and multi-exposure lever were stuck, cost me $45 but now functional. There’s a shutter squeak due to loss of lubrication, can be easily remedied. A battery coil in the motor drive was gone so I had to use some aluminum foil, works fine now. There was a battery explosion in the flash and the damage was beyond repair, had to buy a new one but luckily found a great twin flash for $10. All the batteries needed for this ran about $20. All together the price of this setup was $165 but not bad for a complete set with a f/1.4 lens.

  • Excellent

The A-1 is a great mix of auto and manual. It has excellent metering and it picks the right aperture and shutter speed automatically, just like a modern digital camera. Personally, I like focusing on my own, since I've missed more shots with auto-focus then I ever have with manual focus. Great camera, and great value.

  • Canon AE1

One of the first and , as I am concerned,, one of the best cameras ever made. It still is one of the best The biggest advance was the electric in camera light meter. That alone set the stage for all the digital cameras we have now. It is quick, responsive, and very accurate in its setup for your photos. It doesn't adjust you camera or change your setting, nor does it adjust your lens length. You are still responsible for doing and creating your shot. It simply facilitate your work. The lens are acceptable. They aren't Weiss, but the work beautifully. I find the 20 to 300 is my preferred lens. It provides beautiful sharp shots of just about everything. This camera is a slightly newer camera than my original. It still has the elegant look and feel of the old film cameras. If you are an analog or film person, then using one of these will make your day. Would I buy another? YES, I now own three and love them.

  • Canon A-1 SLR Camera Body

Camera arrived well-packed and protected... no camera damage in spite of one corner of the cardboard carton being crushed. Camera appears almost new. Everything seems to function properly. I've not yet run the first roll of film through it, so can't comment yet on image quality. So far... very happy with the purchase.

  • From the future, back!

I received one of these as a high school graduation present, and loved it then. I evolved into a digital amateur photographer over time! I had been missing the technical challenges of manual and lightly automated photography. Similarly there is something about film photography that appeals to the kinetic doer in me. The AE-1 is a fine, no compromise camera that lets me make use of Canon's excellent and highly varied FD and FL interchangeable lens system (plus with an adapter I can attach these lenses to my Canon EOS 50D digital camera). My new AE-1, like my old one is right sized, ergonomic, easy to use and with a bright viewfinder. This camera is sturdy, reliable, maintainable, durable and versatile. Also one can find a used AE-1 at a good price, along with the award winning FD lenses. I use 14 FD lenses, one FL lens and both Canon's 199A flash and 299T flash. My photographic results are excellent! I anticipate years of service with my NEW, old AE-1.

  • Saddened with purchase

Well. the Motor Drive is OK, however, there are flaws that weren't disclosed. The Mirror squeaks during operation, the Lock lever doesn't Lock or come off of Auto position. The Film wind lever doesn't fully return to proper position. Cosmetically this is in really good shape, the viewfinder is clean and the Motor Drive engages well. Repair will match the cost of item. Technically, "no return of purchase" Is in description.

  • Love it!

I haven't had film developed from it yet, so I don't know about the image quality, but I imagine it will be good. It operates properly, and I love it! I really like all the features it has, and am looking forward to trying them all. I bought a manual for it as well.

  • Very robust camera. Pleasure to use. Will last forever.

This camera is better designed and built than the Nikon F2. Among the 1970's Japanese professional 35mm SLR cameras this is the ultimate. The Olympics model in good condition is highly collectable.

  • Great price

I like how much I paid for it. Fair for what I got. I have a different definition of sounds good on all speeds and the intensity of the shutter squeal, but over all it's cosmetically great! Very happy with the purchase
