    Cutting the cord for real.

Ive searched and searched every possible avenue of cutting the cord from cable satellite providers but they got me used to she simplicity of DVRing my shows. Since u have to spend a fortune with any provider to get the only cable channels i watch (mlb network, Velocity, etc) i decided to pull the trigger. The Channel Master does what it advertises. No frills recording from the OTA antenna. Perfect. I considered all of the other options out there and this seemed the best value as i have no other expences other than the initial investment. The guide works and looks great. The signal transfer is as good or better than all of my previous providers. The bonus is the audio processing is great. I do use a Roku for Hulu and Netflix and integration of these services would be great but i am not complining. The Channel master works Flawlessly and is a nearly invisible device among my components. Dont hesitate or waste any more time. I would buy it now.

Ok, but misses the mark on one essential core function

There are a lot of things I like and dislike, but overall, this DVR is really the only reasonable, 2-tuner choice for OTA watching and recording. It's a shame there isn't better competition. First and foremost, this is a DVR, so it should excel at performing DVR functions. Unfortunately, there is one function where it fails completely. One of the essentials for a DVR is to allow selection of extra lead-in and lag recording times beyond a broadcast show's scheduled begin and end times. This prevents missing any broadcast time slips which might include important events at the very beginning and end of a recorded show, and it also compensates for any DVR clock inaccuracies. And to be sure, we all know these slips are not rare. If you configure for extra record minutes before (lead) and/or after (lag) show time and record a single show, the DVR faithfully honors your request and adds those minutes to your recording. However, if you set up two separate recordings at back-to-back time slots - regardless of using the same or different channels - the DVR will IGNORE YOUR SELECTED LEAD/LAG record time requests! The end result is it behaves as if you had configured for zero lead/lag times! I don't understand why ChannelMaster chose to do this. There are two separate tuners that can operate independently (as advertised) so there's absolutely no reason for them to ignore user selected recording lead/lag times. I called ChannelMaster to find out if this was a bug and the reply I got was "that's the way it works".... not acceptable, ChannelMaster.... Epic Fail! As for the other things I dislike about the CM-7500 design/behavior, like weird/inefficient remote button layout, odd channel guide user interface behavior, etc., I could generously classify them as just my pet peeves. And for the things I do like, mostly I'm just happy the system doesn't freeze up and crash like my CM-7000 PAL. That, by itself, is enough to keep from returning it for a refund.

  • Tuner is not as good as my HDTV

This is a good product and the refurbished unit is just like new with a warranty. However, I have found that the tuner is not as good as my LG HGTV and the result is that the recording quality isn't as good as it could be. Maybe they will fix this with a software release or a newer model with better tuner hardware. One would think that these would have the same quality tuners as mainstream TV's, but that does not appear to be the case. And, I have adjusted my antenna dozens of times trying to improve picture quality plus I'm using Channel Master's 7777 high powered amplifier on my antenna, so I have taken all of the necessary measures to improve my signal quality. On my HGTV, I have a good picture 99% of the time; my recordings are often scrambled due to poor reception.

  • Simple OTA recording device

Device recognized external USB powered hard drive and set it up for recording. An external drive does turn off internal 16GB for recording. The software provides basic functions. I'm accustom to using Windows Media Center for recording so many of those features are not available. Does not share recordings on local network (DLNA). This device is perfect for anyone who just wants to record network TV with few series recording options.

  • Did My Research - Delivers On My Expectations

I've been researching cord cutting options for almost a year, and one of the items I couldn't live without is a DVR. I previously had a DVR with my satellite provider, and wanted the same experience. The DVR+ was very easy to setup, and detected my 1TB hard drive immediately and only took about 5 minutes to completely setup the OTA channels in my area. I would recommend to anyone that is looking to switch the OTA from cable/satellite to research what you need on Digital Home in Canada, or the AVS Forums in the U.S. on this product and OTA sections for your region/area. They were a great help in not only choosing this unit, but also the antenna setup I would require. After using the unit for 2 weeks, it isn't the most intuitive DVR, but does the job as advertised. The unit came with a different remote then advertised by the seller (CM Open Box), but works fine. PROS: -Unit was refurbished by the manufacturer (Channel Master), but looked new -Easy to setup - I had everything with my antenna and cabling ready to go. Found all the local channels quickly -Could easily hide all the unwanted channels from the guide -Picked up about 70 channels - only 3 didn't have guide data on the Rovi guide once I figured out how to set it up. -Very small unit - easily blends in and hides by my TV - much smaller than anticipated. Expected it to by a laptop size, but more like a tablet -Delivery price was good compared to the price at Canadian retailers. Even though I had to pay tax and duty on delivery, still cheaper then major electronic stores in Canada through the manufacturer's eBay sale -Didn't buy the USB WIFI adapter - however, connected the DVR+ to my laptops WIFI to get a connection -The free Channel Master TV channels through the internet are a great bonus - not the most well known channels, but good substitutes for cable news, music, and some cable channels I no longer get. CONS: -Remote is annoying in that the off button, when other components are programmed, turns off my TV and audio system - I have other devices on my system and wish you could turn off components individually, then one button for all -The skip buttons have some lag - I have my skip forward button set for 30 seconds, but has a lag of 1 or 2 seconds before you can hit is again. My previous DVR didn't have this lag. Adds about 10 seconds to commercial break skips -Took awhile to find the right Zip/Postal Code to populate the online guide service from Rovi -The Channel Master OTT Internet channels do not have programming guides, and some are delayed (RT for example is 15 minutes behind). It includes WGN from Chicago, but not the main channel that has sports programming - it is just WGN News Overall, I am satisfied after 2 weeks. I no longer pay the big Telco/cable/satellite overlords $100 a month!

  • Nicely designed interface.

I bought a very cheap tuner/dvr and regretted it. The setup and interface were clunky and poorly designed and the build quality was pretty bad. THIS DVR/tuner seems very well built and the interface/tuner/setup is rather logical and intuitive, especially since it is so much like the program and guide features of dish network and directv (what I'm used to). No fees or subscriptions, just the somewhat reasonable one time cost of purchase. I connected a 1 terabyte external hard drive and have room for hours and hours of recording.

  • Cut the cable!

I have no experience with TiVo or similar technology, except for the Channel Master PAL7000. The new DVR+ is a huge improvement. I am so much happier with this unit. The bottom line is that you get free broadcast TV and a decent interface. Yes, it's pricey, but compared to buying cable or sat, it's cheap. I recommend it without hesitation.

  • Channel Master DVR+ is a dependable OTA machine.

Channel Master no longer makes this DVR, but it is a very dependable unit for recording over the air broadcast. If you have a good antenna on the roof, you will get better than satelite/cable quality pictures and recordings for free. I recommend an external hard drive. If you had cable or satelite, you will feel at home with the functionality. The internet channels are no longer supported on this machine and really did not work well to begin with, but if you have a streaming device like Roku to partner with the DVR+, you really need nothing more - at least I don't.

  • Great for cord cutting!!!

This product is just what I was looking for. I bought one without a hard drive and added a 500 GB for next to nothing. I have an antenna in the roof which allows me to receive around 32 local channels including ABC, CBS, NBC, FOX, PBS, and CW plus the sub channels they all broadcast. In addition this product offers a number of internet channels including a great weather channel when you connect to your router. A bonus I was not aware of is the Sling TV channel if you have a membership. VuDu is also included but I don't subscribe to that. If you have ever had Dish Network boxes then you will be able to use this right away. Looks and performs almost the same. Pause live tv, fast forward & reverse. Skip ahead and back. Record future shows or series. The program guide goes out 2 weeks when connected to your router. Would rate this an 11 out of 1-10. Only suggestion I would make is to offer a Netflix Channel and maybe Amazon Instant Video Channel. Only MINOR complaint is the remote takes CR2032 batteries but you can those here on eBay cheap.

  • Beats cable and satellite DVR's

It appears to be working at out as advertised and as I expected. I just recently got the external hard-drive to expand recording capabilities and have not yet linked the SLING and other options. I would like to point out one item that had me frustrated for some time. In the manual that comes with the DVR; on pages 4 & 5 under "Programming the remote control" both methods state "To control your TV, press the Red Button,....The On/Off button blinks once." This does not happen; the On/Off button does not blink; I ended up finding the correct programming method on your website.
