The Black Max continues to be the best and most controllable baitcaster on the market for under $100.00. Most of my own reels cost considerably more but I still have two in my boat. I often buy them as gifts for novice fisherfolk because they can be tuned to cast "thumbs free". Can 18 lb of drag handle muskie and giant bucktails? Beastmode!
I am pleasantly surprised. I lined up with 100lb braid thinking it would surely backlash but it didnt . I figured 8 in bucktails with size 12 blades would be 2 much for it but the gearing was stout , and smooth . 3 days and it got its chance to fight, and manhandled a 42 in muskie . Smoothest baitcaster I have tried yet.

Damn nice reel!
Took the Black Max fishing today and it did a fine job. I hooked a big bass but the damn thing threw the lure at the last minute.
