    JRPG greatness

The story is the typical JRPG fair, but it is presented in a fantastic way. There is plenty of mystery to keep it interesting. Both the Heroes and the villians are very likable. The voice acting is excellent, and never made it to the point of cringe. There is a LOT to do here. The combat system seems extremely shallow at first, but really ramps up once you get a few level under your belt. Typical play time seems to be around 70 hours, but I took my time and did quite a few of the side quests etc and clocked in around 100. There is a new game + mode as well that adds some super bosses, and some replayability.

    Not what I was expecting.

I am sure this type of game is a challenge and fun for some hard core RPG fans but I never played a game where you mess with the menus 70% of the time trying to upgrade the characters instead of enjoying the story. Not a terrible game, just not what expected.

  • Time flies when you play

At the time of writing I've put in about 30 hours. Not even close to finished as well as eventually getting NG+. Just some thoughts on it! I absolutely love the music. I love how there's room for error and dying is a quick load so you're free to try different strategies. I've really enjoyed the varied cast of characters and the voice acting is really top notch. It's a very pretty game graphically. The set environments are beautiful The massive Titans you explore are gorgeous and the scale is still surprising to me when you see an enormous head in the distance. If you're into the sort of thing, fanservice is wayyy abundant and I for one love it.

  • Game is good, but not great

I’ll go straight to the point with this review. Combat system is good, and easy to understand, but tutorial is bad. It takes ~20 hours for the game to tell about all the features of combat system, that you can explain in 10 minutes easily. Graphically game is controversial: design is good, world looks beautiful, but resolution is bad. I’m not really sure about that, but it feels like game runs in 720-900p in docked mode and ~480p in portable mode. Story initially looks a little bit promising, but constant deus ex machina’s, setups for story twists that are showed in flashbacks AFTER twist happened make story feel bad when you’re coming closer to the end of the game. Also, characters sometimes act not how they would want to act, but how scriptwriter wants them to act. One last thing to discuss - anime style(I haven’t played XC X, but as far as I know anime style was first introduced in the series in this game). I have no problem with anime style, there are lots of anime that I love, but I don’t like the way of XC 2 doing the anime style. I need to clarify, anime style is not only about design style, but also about how characters behave. If you are familiar with anime, you will see many bad cliches, and if you’re not, sometimes you will see really stupid scenes. For example(it’s kinda spoiler, but I’ll try to conceal it as much as possible), at some point one of the characters will confess his/her love to another characters in a very literal way. And, of course, the person that was confessed to misinterprets that. I hope my review will help you decide if you will like this game or not. 7/10

  • I highly recommend

If you appreciate Xenoblade’s current art style I’d recommend the collectors Edition over the normal version. The art book is really well done and you definitely feel they development team and those involved feel really good about the end result. The game case is a huge upgrade from the normal plastic nice inlay and a raised graphic “textured”. I have yet to listened to the sound selection that’s included however the CD looks pretty cool...

  • Works great! Just wish they still sold the game lol. Nintendo is always doing "limited" releases of games. But I have it now so no biggie.

  • Fun game with lots to do! But...

Fun game with lots to do! However The map system isn't the best and the way to obtain blades is luck based meaning you might be grinding for hours before you get what you want. Very compelling and fun story with great cast of characters.

  • Excellent

Great story and gameplay. Been playing on my spare time and by the time I notice, hours have passed. The game is very time consuming which is why I like it since I'm always waiting to get home from work and start playing for a couple hours.

  • A true reason to own a switch.

Xenoblade Chronicles 2 is already at the top of my list for best JRPG of the generation. While I've only gotten to put in around 30 hours so far, when I stop playing all I can think about is the next 30 hours. The combat is fun and allows for well timed combo execution. With a good handle and equipped party members you can punch well above your character level if you have your know how and timing down. The characters have plenty of charm and personality, making a pretty standard feeling JRPG story so far feel more compelling than it really has any right to be. I want to spend time with these characters. If you're a genre fan, you probably will too.
