  • An interwoven masterpiece

Clive Barker's first large novel, and it's a real gem. Captivating from the start, the prose style is sophisticated without being too florid. One can form an idea of each of the characters, both the good guys and the bad. It has emotional highs and lows in abundance, and a perfect mix of magical and mundane. Most of all, it is a reflection of human nature in all its forms. Yet it also reminds us that even the most vile of creatures can be redeemed by small acts of kindness. Of all his novels, this must rate as the 'purest'. Complex and engaging, but without the excess of some of the later books. The Great And Secret Show is similar in this sense, but where that was spoilt somewhat by the sequel, Everville, Weaveworld remains untainted as a stand-alone work. A rich imagination, wonderful characters and fantastic scenes all make for a great read. And a book to be read again and again. Truly wonderful.
