  • A Great All-in-One Busking/Open Mic Acoustic Amp

Although rather pricey new, you can find good used deals on these and they are reported to hold up well. Even so, it packs a lot of punch for the price with 15w per channel (10w on battery), a separate guitar and vocal channel, two types of foot switchable per-channel choruses and global reverbs, and, my favorite, a built in footswitch controllable looper. I bought mine used for $300 shipped as a quick and dirty solution to boardwalk busking, open mics, one offs, fill ins, etc, where I don't want to bring my bigger pedalboard that all that but much more in a much more cumbersome package. So, I like to save that one for full gigs. The amp sounds great as well and, at first I wasn't sure if it would be loud enough when tested with my Ibanez Talman acoustic, but my Art & Lutherie acoustic was much louder, so I imagine the hotness of your acoustic pickup output plays a factor. The looper was quite easy to use, either with the Boss recommended pedal, or any always on, momentary off dual footswitch. I converted a Crate channel/reverb footswitch by replacing the click on/off pushbutton switches with momentary off soft switches and it worked perfectly. Although my regular looper has a "timing assist" feature which helps you punch in/out better, the Roland looper was quite easy to get the hang of.

  • Works well with an archtop. Not very loud.

I am surprised how much I like this amp. I play it with a jazz archtop (a Gibson ES-175). Needed something for small gigs at restaurants and parties. I've tried a number of smaller solid state amps made for acoustic guitar. Most of them either sound boxy, or they color the guitar's sound ever so slightly. The biggest PROS: this amp delivers a very accurate representation of your instrument's acoustic voice when played without effects. It is the nicest sounding, most uncolored amplification I've found yet in an amp this size. Professional performance quality at low volumes. Also good, the battery performance. It really does go forever on 8 AA's. Get yourself an 8 bank charger and 16 rechargeable and you will never use the AC power supply. I forgot where mine is. The proprietary battery housing in the back of the amp is completely ingenious and impressively robust. Final big pro: exceptionally light weight. What a luxury. Now the CONS: Not loud enough for a gig with a drummer, unless he's playing brushes only. There are some battery amps out there by Crate and Roland that are louder, but they have a harder, more high-gain sort of sound better suited to a solid body electric. So you will also need a heavier amp that requires wall power for times you play with a drummer (if you want your guitar to be audible and still convey its clean, natural voice).

  • Roland AC 33 Ac oustic Guitar Amp

This amp is great! It can run on 8 AA batteries for 10 hours or on AC forever. 30 watts with AC and 20 watts on battery power. It also has a looper effect built in. Great for small venues or street performing or wedding gigs in remote locations with out electricity. Very good sound for acoustic guitar... also has one microphone input. So 2 channels accessible to a performer and you can also plug in to an auxiliary channel to play a device with 1/8 inch aux cable.

  • Lightweight, Handy, Versatile, Roland Quality ... The longer you own it, the more you'll appreciate it!

The independent reviews of this product are correct. Yes, it is a handy portable single/duo/mic+instrument amp (when using the best 1.5v x 8 batteries) for medium to small venues. Let me stress - Although this amp seems to be designed for acoustic electric guitars, a solid body electric is still passible. The sound is good but doesn't come close to the larger AC-60 or AC-90. The attraction of this amp is the weight at under ten pounds. If you are a solo player using a mic and guitar, you will really stand out if you add a Boss VE-2 Vocal Harmonist Pedal (or equivalent.) It does include a low latency loop function for which you will need to purchase a pedal. The loop function works well but I rarely use it. There is a rechargeable 30000mAH battery available that will cure your 'range anxiety' if you don't want to keep buying batteries. That said, the AC-33 is not very strong and will distort the lower range if you want to play power cords. If you play folk song style for picnic sing-a-longs or small venues, it might be just the ticket. To give you greater control over a presentation, it's useful to use the AC-33 as your monitor and use the 1/4" jack(s) on the back to patch into the main PA system. For backing using your own or other tracks, the RCA and 3.5mm inputs are right there on the back with a volume control. As I said before, this amp lacks punch. It sounds a little hollow when used by itself. That's what happens when you use small efficiency conscious speakers to conserve weight and battery life. It's a tradeoff you'll have to accept but with a little imagination, this amp could be your venue best friend..... The best selling point is its portability. Having to lug around at heavy speaker is just not cool.

  • Best investment in my musical tool box ....

This an excellent tool for all guitar and vocals soloists ... with the looper ..it hones your abilities to add rifts and picking styles ... bring to garage gatherings ...jams and beach and parks get togethers ...this little amplifier allows me to add reverb, bass and treble to mic and guitar quality to sound just as good as larger PA systems .... and is light enough to cary anywhere ...

  • Fun amp!

With an additional footswitch, this little amp is great fun, sounds very nice and I can't wait to jam with it and have it plugged into a P.A. system. I have wanted one of these ever since watching Phil Keaggy show what they can do. I think this amp will have me playing more often which is a good thing. Couldn't be happier with my purchase.

  • A viable solution

I play my Ramirez nylon through this, & with little tweaking, it is of reasonable quality for practice & small venues. My main amps are AERs, not portable. I play for a living. Over 30years.
