    Punches above its price-point.

I had not been familiar with this lens prior to this purchase. I am more familiar with higher end Canon lenses, including their L line. Given my experience, I was very happy with this lens on Canon Rebel camera bodies. The quality and build, vis-a-vis the price point, is very good. And is perfect for either average users or new/young photographers. Enjoy the images for what they are, as opposed to what they are not (like super sharp or saturated with color), and it will serve you well. Plus in this day and age, you can add a bit of sharpening and saturation in post and most users will never know the difference. And hence never have reason to spend hundreds more.

Sometimes weigh is a sign of quality

Canon´s mid-range zoom lens which has a reasonable price. But if you´re sick´n tired of deterioration of the image while zooming, perhaps you buy some better model. However, this is a great lens for portraits, statues with bokey skies, flowers etc...kinda like a semi macro lens. If you wanna boost that macro feature, attach one extension tube ring (that thinnest one) between the lens and the camera and you´re all set for decent macros! This lens works brilliantly with one tube, like 12 or 13mm. Those who prefer to shoot landscape photos esp in challenging conditions like dense fog and sun together or a lot of city lights in dim light the lens may cause difficulties, like color fading ( sin and fog) and lens flares. I´m not an expert, just typed this based on my own experiences on this lens. I apologize for grammatical errors.

  • A much improved replacemet lens

It is easy to adjust from wide angle to telephoto, and the lens focuses very sharply while using auto focus. It is a replacement for an older lens that was damaged, and is greatly improved. I have not had a chance to use it a lot, but it seems much better than the old lens.

  • Plain Vanilla prime lens

The Canon 18-55 zoom is the standard kit lens for low end EOS digital cameras, and I find that they cover most of my needs with an APC (small format) chip. The lens, though 'cheap', is surprisingly high in image quality, and the price simply can' be beat!

  • Noisy auto focus

The image is sharp and the lens looks just like the one that came with the camera - which I ruined by using a grinder too nearby - the sparks fused to the lens. However the auto focus motor is noisy (the original was silent) which rather ruins it for doing video which picks up the whirring motor sound. I shall be returning the lens.

  • Perfect replacement for original lens

My old lens gave up and would not Auto Focus anymore. Bought this lens and it is the perfect replacement as I did not need the more expensive lenses you could buy. Would recommend buying a similar one if you are looking to replace your original lens that came with the camera.

  • It's a Canon Kit Lens

Not much to talk about. It's a Canon Kit Lens. We all know what that means. It's perfectly usable. This particular one is a bit problematic in that one of the screws holding the EF-S mount came stripped and I wanted to mod it to work on speedboosters, but couldn't do it safely since I didn't want to saw off a part of it while it was still attached! But it works just fine with my normal EF to M43 adapter.

  • Great!

Great product! Works great with my camera. I already own this lens but it was not working well with my camera. This lens is great!

  • Great lens for general photography

Brand new, great price. Got it to replace one that had issues after 5 yrs of use. Very versatile.

  • Good value for the money

If you need a daylight lens that is reasonably sharp, this is an excellent choice. I use it as a lightweight substitute to carrying around a heavy F2.8 lens when I am just doing snapshots like at a party. There is nothing bad that I can say about this lens when you take into account the price, and comparing it to lenses that cost ten times as much is just stupid.
