About this product

Product Information

The Canon EF-S 18-135mm f/3.5-5.6 IS is an all-purpose zoom lens with STM technology. STM provides smooth, quiet autofocusing for movies, and the dynamic, four-stop image stabilizer reduces vibrations in video footage and photos. The EF-S offers complete versatility for whatever your shooting needs may be. It has a versatile 18-135mm zoom which is just right for capturing anything from landscapes to portraits. This item is a great lens to take on a trip because you won’t need to switch out your lens very often thanks to its wide focal range. Its focal lengths give you the means of shooting just about any type of composition from wide-angle to close-up shots. This Canon 18-135mm lens is one of the photographic accessories that is ideal for low-light conditions when a tripod cannot be used. That's because its image-stabilizer system reduces the blurring effect of camera shake. The fast autofocus with a full-time manual override is another useful feature for achieving sharp images. The EF-S 18-135mm f/3.5-5.6 IS is also equipped with Canon's exterior design for lenses. This design has a textured finish for a sophisticated look and feel that matches your EOS camera. It's constructed with a plastic barrel and metal mount for durability. Even with the inclusion of a metal mount, the weight of this device is kept to just over 1 pound. At this weight, placing it on your digital SLR won't add a large amount of extra weight. This also allows for high portability when carrying the device for sightseeing. This Canon lens measures at 2.97 by 3.98 inches, which is small enough to hold in your hand easily. When you're looking to add accessories, such as filters, to these Canon EF-S lenses, they are compatible with thread sizes of 67mm. For macro images, this DSLR lens has a macro focus range of .45m. You'll notice with this zoom EF-S lens that it has a wide viewing angle of over 74 degrees. This provides you with the means of capturing every detail in a wide frame. This lens was crafted by Canon and released in 2009. It's built with a total of 16 elements in 12 groups. Each part is made to be durable and long lasting. When you wish to hone in on a single object, the 135mm focal length allows you to capture even the smallest detail. The maximum aperture range found on this Canon EF-S lens is f/3.5 to f/5.6. The minimum rests at f/38, providing you with a significant amount of control over how each of your photos looks. While this Canon telephoto lens comes with a wide aperture range, this setting is controlled by the Canon EOS camera. This lens also includes an optical zoom of .21x magnification and is equipped with a total of six diaphragm blades. This Canon f/3 model comes with solid black construction and white detailing for easy-to-read settings. Toward the back of these lenses are two switches that make for quick changes when snapping a photo. The first allows for rapid switching between autofocus and manual focus, while the second turns image stabilization on or off.

  • Best budget zoom lense I have ever used.

We bought this lens for my wife who is using her first DSLR (a crop-sensor camera). Personally, after my experiences with a full-frame camera and large aperture L-class lenses, my expectations for Canon 18-135 lens were low. However, I after I saw her first pictures, I changed my opinion. Canon 18-135 is sharp, has great colors, excellent zoom range and suitable for all kinds of photography: landscapes, portraits and anything else that comes to your mind. Honestly, I often can't tell if a picture was taken with this lens or my L-class zoom on full frame until I look at the exif file. Versatility: on the wide end 18mm corresponds to about 28 mm on the full frame camera. This is not super-wide, but wide enough, if you know how to compose your shot. 135 mm, on the other end equals 216 mm lens angle of view on the full frame and this is an awesome zoom capacity to carry around! BTW, bokeh looks very pleasant if your use it for portraits at the long end with f5.6 aperture. Ironically, a lens with this zoom range simply does not exists for Canon full-frame cameras. In summary, Canon 18-135 is the best walk around lens for a crop-sensor Canon camera at a very reasonable price.

  • Finally, my "walkaround" lens

I have quite an assortment of lenses, both longer and shorter, but I always seemed to have the wrong lens for the moment. This lens has finally hit the sweet spot and I'll probably be selling some of my collection. It's just the right range, very well built, and is not too long when zoomed. Importantly, it doesn't "fall out" into the zoom length, even without the zoom lock. Performance-wise, it's very focus fast, smooth, and quiet. I ran a series of test shots immediately. the test shots and subsequent photos, confirmed that this lens can produce superior images that are very sharp, especially comparing them to some of the lenses I wanted to replace. I'm taking noticeably sharper and better photos now. I think this lens is only available via camera package break-ups and not stand-alone from Canon. Don't know why - this should be a prime lens in their line-up. I'm VERY happy with this lens.

  • Perfect lens for the Canon APS cameras

I use this 18 to 135 mm lens on my Canon T5. It has the equivalent full frame zoom range of 29 to 229 mm (almost 8x). The lens balances very nicely on the camera, and has easy to use controls. It is not too light (like the regular 18 to 55 kit lens) or to heavy (like some of the expensive L series lenses). I was surprised that I rarely had to reach for the 10 to 18 mm wide angle or the 70 to 300 mm telephoto. The pictures looked sharp, but you will have to hunt down a lens test review for actual resolution numbers.

  • Canon EF-S 18-135mm f/3.5-5.6 IS STM

The lens is a great beginner lens if your just looking for something to use without dropping loads of dough on expensive glass. The new STM AF motor is lightning fast and dead silent. The only problem with the STM is that there isn't an exact position of the ring that correlates to focusing distance so you can't use a follow focus system very effectively with this lens. A big plus is the long zoom range from a wide 18mm to a medium telephoto of 135mm. Overall, the lens works great for travel (all in one) and some video work (fast AF) but it's not the sharpest.

  • Very fine lens at a modest price

The most useful APS-C lens for most advanced amateur or semi-pro photographers. You will leave this fine lens on your camera most of the time - no matter what or where you are shooting. It combines a wonderful zoom range, good build quality, fine ergonomics and decent price. It's smooth and sharp and compact and the front element doesn't rotate during zooming so you can mount a petal lens hood if you wish. If you carry only one lens for your crop sensor Canon DSLR - this is it.

  • Canon EFS 18-135mm IS STM

I love this lens. Managed to find a good used one. This lens seems to be the perfect choice for capturing two active grandsons. It's so much quieter than the kit lens. The pictures that weren't in focus were more user error. I haven't used the lens for video yet but imagine without the focus noise of the kit lens, it will be an improvement. It's quite a bit heavier than the 18-55 lens but not so much as to make photo shoots uncomfortable in my small hands. After a year of indecision, I'm happy I went for it.

  • Happy photographer

I am not a professional photographer but one thing I can say is that the outcome of the pictures I have taken with this lens were great. Easy to use. The attachment that comes with the kit were easy to install by a beginner like me.... I look like a professional photographer. I am very satisfied with the lens and the fast shipment.

  • Awesome for videos and all around stills

I've taken around 500 stills and a couple hours of videos to test this lens and it works perfectly. It's practically silent while focusing during video and has a fast sharp focus when taking stills as well. it works perfectly for sports shots where movement usually blurs your pics. I'm using this lens with the Canon EOS T5I DSLR and it is a perfect match.

  • Really Fast and is My walk-around lens

With a zoom of 18-135MM this lens covers 90% of my shooting situations. It is fast to focus and the zoom is smooth with no zoom creep. For best results use your camera's shooting modes. i.e. portrate for faces, micro for super close shots, etc. Also use the view finder for the best color.
