  • Excellent value for the money

I know every one prefers the AF-S lenses for a variety of reasons (faster focus, quiet focus for video, etc) but his lens is fantastic! The Bokeh is superb and creamy. There is so little glass to move for focusing that the camera's drive motors brings the focus tack sharp almost instantly. It's a heavily built, butter smooth little jewel. It is a very fast lens. I routinely use this lens for indoor and low light events without a flash. The 50 mm lens on my crop sensor D500 acts as a short telephoto for portrait work as well. In truth, this is one of the least expensive, highest quality, and versatile lenses I have ever owned.

  • Great Prime "normal" lens.

This lens is better made than current models and allows full control of aperture and focus. It is great if your camera model has a built in autofocus motor. You can read an entire review on Ken Rockwell's website.

  • Normal Lens

Match with old model of Nikon camera which it has internal motor for auto focus. Recommend to mount with Nikon APS-c dSLR camera and you can shoot open lens to f/1.4 picture is still sharp. But it was not good in f/1.4 with full frame camera .

  • Nikon 50mm f1.4

A must-have lens for portraits and low-light situations for full frame and DX cameras. Very sharp imaging even at wide open aperture with great broken. Highly recommend for use as standard lens.

  • The essential lens....

The great all-around small lightweight lens. At f/1.4 the focus is razor-sharp for excellent portraits. At f/5.6 the lens is as sharp as anything on the market. The 50mm focal length is the most useful. The manual aperture ring gives great control to those who like to make their own settings, but the lens does it all in Auto mode if speed and ease of use are essential. Nikkor quality is unequalled except for a few boutique makers. You should have one in your bag.

  • Nikkor 50mm f/1.4D lens

This lens was provided with a useful accessories package. The lens is light in weight and provides fantastic images. Its external appearance is that of a truly high quality product, and images taken withit confirm this. Manual focussing is smooth, and electronic focussing is not excessively loud to me, though the G series of lenses are more silent. Since I got this lens it tends to be the one that I use routinely. I have used it on a Nikon DF only.

  • Sharp, durable construction, good low light performance.

Near instant autofocus on my D610. It seems to have a very slight back focus which I only noticed during testing, not actual shooting. Easily corrected by setting autofocus manual fine tuning to -10 for my copy of the lens. Built solidly. A little soft at f/1.4., which can be great for portraits where you want that bright "dreamy" look. Sharpens up nicely as soon as you stop it down a little. Bokeh is not bad. Straight bladed aperture makes nice sunstars. The huge aperture can take good handheld photos in low light without a tripod. No internal AF motor or VR mechanism to break. I expect this lens to basically last forever if I don't neglect it.

  • Compares to the more expensive 1.4g!

This lens is just as sharp and performs just as well as the 50mm 1.4g! I didn't realize, until after a few years of owning a Nikon d700 that I didn't *need* the more expensive, G series lenses paired with my camera. The only difference I can see between the 50mm 1.4d and the 50mm 1.4g is the G series lens has an autofocus motor, while the D series does not. Since both of my DSLR's have an autofocus motor, I sold both of my G series 50mm lenses (a 1.4 and a 1.8) and bought this 50mm 1.4d, plus a D series 35mm (35's are typically more expensive than 50's) prime lens that I've had my eye on, for the money I sold the D series lenses for. Win-win for me!

  • Camer lens

As a beginning photographer this lens was recommended. My other lens has tons of settings and requires little in depth knowledge of photography to operate. This one, however, is all manual and it gave me the opportunity to REALLY learn was it means to change manual settings. I love taking pictures with it for that reason at this point.
