Product Information

This large-aperture zoom lens features the sharpness and image performance of a single focal length lens with a constant, large aperture of f/2.8 throughout the entire zoom range. The optical system includes an ultra-precision ground and polished glass aspherical lens element (1st) that provides a high level of contrast and sharpness at all shooting distances. Fast and silent AF and full-time manual focusing are achieved by a USM (Ultrasonic Motor), inner focusing system and lightweight lens elements. As the filter attachment ring does not rotate during focusing, 77mm PL-C filters can have good operability.

A PRO L lens debuting in 1993 is still a great lens even almost 30 year later: Canon EF 28-70mm f/2.8L
This lens takes very sharp pictures. The only thing that could make this lens perfect is if it had Image Stabilization too. This lens is a workhorse. Compared to mostly plastic lenses, Tamron & Sigma, this lens is HEAVY. This lens works very well with my Canon 5D Mark III. In-camera JPGs look great. Since the price of SD cards and HDDs/SSDs have come down in price, I'm shooting RAW+jpg. This lens works great on full frame and crop sensor cameras that take EF lenses. I'm no pro, so I can't justify buying L lenses for my hobby. Just like cream puff cars, pro level lenses that have been taken well care of are a bargain compared to their brand new counterparts. The reviews of this lens are spot on. Check out its marks in dxomark lens ratings. This lens will be great the next time I take wedding photos for fun.

one of the finest color killer. Sharpness is same or bit better than 24-70mm F2.8 L mark 1 bit heavy and shot focal length, otherwise perfect casual prograde lens

Great lens, some wiggle in extended barrel
Absolute unit of a lens, great photos, weather sealed is nice feature, very sharp, bought used and the barrel of lens that extends has slight wobble but very minor, might just be the way it is, wear and tear or maybe it needs a tighten up, but im overall satisfied

An undervalued lens
This is an older lens, once the standard in all pro kits. It was replaced a few years later with the 24-70, but it still an outstanding (and now undervalued) lens. If you can get a lightly used model, this is a great lens--very crisp and clear, with rich color rendering. I feel the AF is a little slow compared to newer lenses, but it is still quick. The hood is difficult to come by, I've found, so bonus if you can get a used lens *with* the hood.
