Build and design are typical traits of Canon's L series lenses, with tough black plastics and metal used throughout. From still life to action photography, you won't miss a beat, because the EF 180mm f/3.5 L Macro lens is one of the finest lenses produced by Canon. While it may seem a little cumbersome on smaller models, it's still lightweight, attaches easily, and will definitely seem lighter on larger cameras. Being that the auto focus feature is powered by an Ultrasonic motor, focusing at normal distances is extremely fast as a result. The focusing ring is smooth and precise, which makes fine manual adjustments a pleasure to apply. This powerful lens yields images with excellent sharpness in the center of the frame and good sharpness towards the edges. Although no lens hood is supplied as standard with this lens, rarely suffers with flare, and contrast remains high, even when shooting into the light. Canon Macros 180mm F/3.5L Lens
I am an above average photographer- not a pro mind you. I own a Canon 100mml macro and a 100mm Zeiss macro in addition to the one I just bought. The Canon 180mm L is super sharp and allows me more working distance from my subjects making it easier to adjust the lighting the way I want it. In my opinion the images are crisper and the color rendition is better than with the Canon 100mm macro that I own. The lens is heavy, but I use it on a tripod so it doesn't affect what I do. If I were to carry the lens on my camera it would not be comfortable. I imagine that most users would want to use this lens on a tripod set up for added stability. This lens is built like a tank!!
This lens is built like a tank and being a metal body, I found it to be lighter than I expected. I use it mainly for macro and having a bit more working distance from my subject is a bonus for me over the 100mm I used previously. I thought I would miss the extra stop of the 100 f/2.8 but it hasnt been a problem at all. It is incredibly sharp and just feels good in my hands. Go further than 100mm
This lenses is an option that no longer is being sold/produced by canon, and the available lenses is the 100mm macro, which sometimes you would like to go further on magnification of small items or animals. This model is able to push further the macro. Maybe in the future will offer an increased macro range, as it’s going to release the RF 100 macro with 1.4x zoom. Albeit it’s not quite like 180mm and there’s no new EF lenses mount on their roadmap anymore. Therefore, this lenses were a good choice.Verified purchase: YesCondition: New
