    Another Great Nikon Lens!!!

My first Nikon 50mm 1.4 lens was purchased in 1964. That MF lens was great and I still use it. I own several 50mm 1.4 lens purchased over time and what makes this special is that I can get almost instant focus shots that are razor sharp! The pros: 1) Focus is internal so focus doesn't alter polarizing settings 2) I can grab the lens to change the focus easily if I want to. (The previous design 50mm f 1.4 AF-D required you to switch the ring to manual focus) 3) It has great bokeh is very good (as it is on previous 1.4 lenses) 4) Fast, accurate AF-S autofocus is giving me a lot more keeper shots that are sharp. 5) Great keep-on-camera lens for walking around. 6) Well thought out placement of controls make the lens feel like I have used it for years. The cons: 1) G lenses can not be used on older Nikons 2) Who thought up the weird 58mm filter size? Should have been 52 or 62 like all Nikons 3) Made in China and not Japan 4) Preferred when things were all metal including filter ring and lens hood instead of plastic In summary, I pity the fool who parted with this great lens! His loss is my gain! (Side note: I have never sold any Nikon product I purchased, EVER!

    Nikkor 50mm f14 G Lens

in the tradition of Nikon's 50mm offerings, the 50mm af G lens is well built and works perfectly on my nikon df body. my one caveat is that the G designation discards the aperture ring on the lens, itself, and depends on the body to make the needed adjustments. this negates use of this lens, even though it retains the traditional nikon f mount, on any of the film nikons and a number of the prior digital bodies. so, we may say, that finally, nikon places the ability to adjust aperture on the digital body alone. so, as a result, i find this lens and the entire G line to be of poor value when compared to the D lens offerings, which will work on any nikon body from the 1959 nikon f to today's digital imaging devices. at the end, it cheapens the product.

  • Silent and sharp lens

Nikon optics, especially the fast ones, tend to produce a 3-D effect on images shot at very wide openings. This lens is no exception. When shot at f1.4 I get that three-dimensional effect and also a very creamy bokeh in the background. In addition to being well built, it's quiet and fast to focus with my D800 so I am enjoying it thoroughly. Bonus points: it's fully compatible with the Z5 mirrorless body when used with an FTZ adapter.

  • Outstanding

Much like the older nikkor f1.4 from the 70s this new 50mm 1.4 is a bit soft wide open. It's just a characteristic of the lens and is only truly noticeable at close focusing distances. Regardless I would absolutely recommend it. It's a great portrait lens on my D7200 and when you stop it down to f4 or 5.6 is tack sharp. It's fantastic for low light situations and gives you that extra reach allowing lower ISOs and more time handheld as the evening wears on. It's Nikon's fastest autofocus 50mm (I wish they would make a 1.2g someday soon). If you love smooth bokeh then you will be very satisfied with this lens.

  • Nikon 50mm f/1.4G AF-S Is Perfect

What can I say, that hasn't already been said about this Nikon lens? The 50mm f/1.4G is the paradigm of Nikkor lenses. It focuses quickly on my D850 and D810 DSLR's, and using it on my Z-series cameras with the FTZ adapter. This lens replaces my older 50mm f/1.4D AF lens, so it can be used with my Z-series cameras.

  • Incredible lens!

Why did I wait so long to purchase this great lens? I had zooms that covered the 50mm range however to f1.4 aperture makes a great difference in the impact of my images. The quality of the build and the feel make it a strong favorite. There are lots of YouTube videos about this lens. I got a great deal on Ebay purchasing this 50mm f1.4 lens.

  • A great portrait prime on a DX body

I'm shooting with a DX format Nikon body, a D7500. This lens makes a great portrait lens at an equivalent 75mm focal length. Nikon in fact actually recommends this lens for this purpose. It is also a great low light prime.

  • Classic Nikon Lens

Solid lens for general photography. My go to lens on full frame Nikon cameras. Reasonably compact and solid low light performance. Also, good value.

  • Nikon 50mm awesome prime lens

50mm lens is the standard for point of view that most closely resembles the visual arc of the human eye. It should be the go-to lens for both novice and pro photographers. This Nikon 50mm prime is light weight and compact in size. Its sharpness and contrast I would place against any comparable lens. Sometimes one forgets that photography is about image creation and the fun in creating the image. Too many nowadays scour the posts for all the technical information and forget the joy of just walking in a park and taking photos for a couple of hours. I recommend this and the Nikon 35mm in all photographers kits.

  • Very good lens

Crisp image. Good bokeh. AF is quick. Light weight, convenient focal length for both closeup shots and small area/scenic shots. Love it very much. More versatile than my 85mm 1.8.
