Covering a wide-angle to short-telephoto range, the AF-S DX NIKKOR 16-85mm f/3.5-5.6G ED VR is a 24-127.5mm-equivalent zoom for Nikon DX-format DSLRs. Suitable for everyday shooting, the lens's optical design, which includes three aspherical elements and two extra-low dispersion elements, helps to render a high degree of sharpness, clarity, and color accuracy throughout the zoom range. A Super Integrated Coating also controls lens flare and ghosting for improved contrast when working in bright and backlit conditions. Supporting the optics is VR II image stabilization, which compensates for 3.5 stops of camera shake to help realize sharp imagery when shooting handheld. A Silent Wave Motor is also used to provide fast and precise autofocus performance, along with full-time manual focus override.

About this product

Product Information

This AF-S DX Nikkor F3.5-5.6G ED VR lens by Nikon offers a focal length range of 16 to 85 millimeters. This is suitable for great wide-angle photos and photos that need as much of a zoom-out as possible. The maximum aperture range of f/3.5-5.6 allows for image effects, from blurry bokeh backgrounds to clear backgrounds for landscape photography. The lens has a built-in autofocus motor, so you can take sharp and clear photos quicker and more efficiently. The ultra-quiet motor makes for near-silent operation when in use. If you require a great zoom lens for your photographic needs, this is a good lens to have in your bag. This particular Nikon 16-85mm lens has been designed specifically for Nikon DX DSLR cameras. This includes everything from the D40 to the D300. With a minimum focus distance of just 1.3 feet, you can properly capture any object you want to. An image stabilization system is also included with this Nikon Nikkor AF-S lens. This system offers lengthier exposure times of up to 4x shutter speeds for any in-focus image. This is particularly beneficial for portrait photography and wide-angle shots. When using this Nikon lens with your digital SLR, the aperture settings are controlled directly from the camera. At around 10 ounces in weight, these Nikon lenses are extremely portable, whether currently attached to a camera or not. The body of this device is constructed from a metal mount and plastic barrel, which ensures its longevity. The dimensions for this Nikon lens are 2.83 by 2.83 by 3.35 inches, so it's definitely small enough for a bag. These AF-S 16-85mm lenses were first placed on the market by Nikon in 2008. They consist of a stylish black body with white and gold lettering for a professional look. This f/3 lens is made from a total of 17 elements in 11 groups. When taking pictures, you'll notice that it captures many details due to the 83-degree wide angle of view. The zoom on this Nikon telephoto lens comes with a 5.7x magnification. This allows you to accurately hone in on any object you see in the distance. The extra-low dispersion glass components found in this Nikon device offer a reduction of chromatic aberration. This results in a much sharper image with proper color grading. It also comes equipped with three aspherical lens elements. These assist with the elimination of additional issues that could adversely affect a photo, such as coma effects. A super-integrated coating is applied to all of these Nikon lenses and is designed to reduce both ghosting and flare. Out-of-focus objects within images are made to look clearer due to the inclusion of a seven-blade diaphragm. This diaphragm has a rounded design. Whenever you need to change between the autofocus and manual focus modes, a useful switch is included. This switch is located towards the mount and allows for quick switching between modes with minimal time lag. This lens has technical specifications for a performance that even professionals rely on and trust.

  • My new lens!

Arrived earlier than expected. Works great. It's my go-to lens for general out and about shooting. The 16mm focal length adds an extra dimension to my style of photography.

This is a dandy little lens and the auto focus/manual focus is really cool! I have taken a few photos with it and am getting the hang of it pretty quickly. The pictures are coming out very nicely. The lens appears to be in great condition. I am looking forward to using it for landscapes on my trip to Montana. I will enjoy shooting different landscapes with this wide angle lens! I think this is a good purchase.

  • Very good lens for the Nikon D5500

I am using the Nikon D5500 as a travel camera rather than my D750. The D5500 coupled with the 16-85mm lens is perfect for travel as it is light and the lens has a good range more my needs (about 24-125mm in FX terms). The lens has produced good pictures in my use.

  • Nikon 16-85 mm AF DX zoom lens recently purchased

Very pleased with this Nikon 16-85 mm DX Zoom lens. Sharp pictures at any focal length.

  • Best Bang for your buck

Went from kit lens to an 18-105 mm lens which I think is very good to the 16-85mm which I think is excellent. Would rather have a 17-55 mm for professional work ,the 16-85 at less than half price is the better deal for serious photographers who want super quality photo.

  • Great Everyday Lens

Great lens, sharp at any length. I will complain about a little bit of lens creep but not too bad. I am happy with the lens.

  • Nikon Nikkor 16-85mm lens

The Nikkor 16-85mm lens is ideal for taking portraits and wide angle landscapes. The lens is very sharp, which is the most important thing for me. I like to make large blowups of my photos. Some people might like a little more range on the telephoto end, but those are some of the trade offs you have to make.

  • My new " Go-To " lens

This turned into my go to lens. The wide angle 16mm provides even with the coping of the DX format makes it a true wide angle lens. The 85mm provides extra reach over the standard 55mm lenses and does make a difference. I rarely dig out the large zoom lens anymore and usually get by shooting in museums close ups and larger scenes with one lens. It is not the lightest lens, but the optical quality is superb and the focus is lightening fast a definite keeper.

  • nikon16-85 lens review

This seems to be a very good lens. The description said it had a small amount of dust in the front element, I haven't been able to find any. I've used a 4x loupe but it's dust free as far as I can tell. The description said the yellow lettering was faded, that seems too be the only thing wrong with the lens and it has no effect on performance so I think I got a very good lens at a very fair price.
