Suitable for everyday shooting, the lens's optical design, which includes three aspherical elements and two extra-low dispersion elements, helps to render a high degree of sharpness, clarity, and color accuracy throughout the zoom range. A Super Integrated Coating also controls lens flare and ghosting for improved contrast when working in bright and backlit conditions. Supporting the optics is VR II image stabilization, which compensates for 3.5 stops of camera shake to help realize sharp imagery when shooting handheld. A Silent Wave Motor is also used to provide fast and precise autofocus performance, along with full-time manual focus override.

Very good lens for the Nikon D5500

Best Bang for your buck
Went from kit lens to an 18-105 mm lens which I think is very good to the 16-85mm which I think is excellent. My new " Go-To " lens
This turned into my go to lens. The wide angle 16mm provides even with the coping of the DX format makes it a true wide angle lens. The 85mm provides extra reach over the standard 55mm lenses and does make a difference. I rarely dig out the large zoom lens anymore and usually get by shooting in museums close ups and larger scenes with one lens. This seems to be a very good lens. The description said it had a small amount of dust in the front element, I haven't been able to find any. I've used a 4x loupe but it's dust free as far as I can tell.
