About this product

Product Information

The Canon EF USM is a good choice for photographers who are looking for a good solid lens that can take nice portraits in low-light conditions if necessary. The 8-blade aperture on the Canon EF USM is large at f/2 and it is compatible with other Canon cameras that use the EF mounting and 58 mm filters. This Canon camera lens is a prime lens that is also a macro lens with 1:1 magnification. That combined with the 100 mm focal length makes it a good portrait lens that can still focus to infinity just like any other telephoto camera lens. Distortion is very small and the small amount of background blurring that can be arranged works well for portrait images. The Canon EF USM is built with Ring USM (UltraSonic Motor) auto-focusing that is fast, quiet, and smooth and does not extend when focusing. Full-time manual focus can also be used if desired. A selection of lenses that includes a telephoto camera lens is ideal for any serious photography work, but the total weight of a lens kit can really add up fast. At just 16 oz, there is sure to be room for this lightweight and very portable Canon camera lens in any amateur or professional kit.

  • Canon EF 100mm f/2 USM lens...superb portrait lens for full frame cameras

The Canon EF 100mm f/2 USM lens is an outstanding value. The quality of images it produces on my EOS 1Ds are outstanding, even with prints up to 16x20. The focal length provides just enough compression for individual portraits and couples shots while allowing a comfortable working distance. Having previously owned the EF 85mm f/1.8 USM lens, I've come to the conclusion that the EF 100mm f/2 USM is my lens of choice and is a dependable workhorse of a lens that always delivers the money making image!

  • A bargain for 100mm F2 at this cost

I looked at this lens for a long time and read many reviews. I am moving away from Canon kit tele lenses to Primes trying get the most out of both portrait type photography and sporting events including some indoor shots. The much lower F stop of F2 compared to the Kit lens's F4 or smaller is well worth the upgrade. The ability to shoot indoors in a Gym with medium lighting is nice. At 100 mm a tripod is not essential if you position correctly. It is not Macro, but I wanted the sharpness over that feature in the sister to this Cannon option. I chose 100 over 85 for the sporting events. I am glad about choosing this lens after considering both other choices. Low F stop, very sharp, low distortion and very little flare. At about 1/3rd the price of an L series. If cost is an issue this is a good value for a handy length and well made lens. With the Nifty 50mm 1.8STM and this 100mm F2 the Bokeh in my portrait work is taken to a new level of creativity. All at a budget level suitable for the amateur work I do.

  • Great lens!

Sharp in low light and silent AF. There's no way to control aperture except through the camera. So if using an adapter, make sure it has electronic connection!

  • Great! Fast and sharp focusing

Great value for a solid lens. Quick focusing. Sharp image. Great boca with f2.0. One of the best portrait lenses. I use it for portraits on a tripod so no need for macro or image stabilization(which it doesn't have).

  • Great for portraits and intimate landscapes!

Truly great lens. I used this on my EOS M6 with Viltrox Speed Booster. It takes an already great lens and multiplies the light gathering power and adds a slight extra reach. Overall, this lens focuses quickly and accurately, photos render beautifully, and the feel is quality. Highly recommend!

  • One of the Best Portrait Lens and In Door Sports

This lens is very similar to 85mm 1.8 but I prefer this lens on a full frame for portraits. To be honest, I never gave this lens much thought because I heard so much good things about 85mm 1.8 lens and did have very positive impression from that lens. But, I owned and sold that lens multiple times. On crop sensor, it's 135mm equivalent which is too tight for me, and on a full frame it was almost like shooting with my 50mm 1.8 on a crop sensor (80mm equivalent) which was alright. I was happy (amazing image quality and bokeh)... kind of... but I always ended up selling it again as it wasn't getting used much compared to my 50mm because of range. Then I got my hands on a Yongnuo 100mm f2. Wow, that lens was amazing! Very sharp and loved the images coming out from that lens on my 6D for tight portraits. (Highly recommended for those on a tight budget. Got mine used for $100) I would have been happy with that lens but I was able to get Canon 100mm f2 for a very good price here. Comparing both, Canon is much faster and quieter to focus. Focus and accuracy and image quality is about the same, very good. I am keeping the Canon for better AF and af-c capability for tracking action. (Yongnuo can't track focus well) I highly recommend this lens for portrait even over 85mm on a full frame cameras. At least give it a try and compare it with the 85mm or 135mm.

  • Canon EF 100mm f/2. Smaller and lighter than my EF 100mm f/2.8 L macro, but w/o IS. Really nice portrait lens - very sharp.

  • Great Lens

I am very picky about image quality, and this lens, on a Canon 6D, is excellent from f/4 to f/8. It is also relatively small and light. Highly recommended.

  • Fast, compact and sharp...what else is there?

This is a great little lens. Sharp. Looks like 162mm in super35/ 4K. No i.s. but sweet on a stabilizer or tripod. It’s an f2 so yeah, it sees in the dark pretty well. Enjoy.
