Good but not great

I have two reasons for headphones. One for my Ipod classic that I plug into a Schitt headphone amp and one for my Orbit Turntable I run through my NAD 3020I. I have some AKG's and another pair of Audio- Technica's that cost under a $100. I wanted something better than what I had and the ATH-M50's accomplished that. Better sound stage and more volume than my other two. Where they feel short was on the accoustic end. On older LP's like Stevie Nicks, Van Morrison, Eagles etc. they did not hold a candle to my older open back Grado's. But, for the money, a good set of headphones. Very comfortable to wear and all the other features with plugs etc was a good bang for the buck. So, for me, good but not greatRead full review

Cheap M50x pads

What do you expect for five bucks? Replaced original, heavily used, ripped pads with a set of these cheapo’s. Fitment seems a bit loose and pads may rotate around on cup. Original pads had a rubberized backing that prevented slippage of pad on cup. While these are not the same quality as original, they do feel nice on the cranium and sound quality was not sacrificed. Btw, oem pads were pleather as well. Ok for price, but if looking for premium...open wallet up and fork over more bucks to another manufacturer. I do like that these feel fresh and allow plenty of room to fit over my ears.Read full review

Loosen up

Oh, the pressure. That's an easy feeling to have when this headset goes on (unless you're a pinhead). And there's no guidance -- in the instructions or online -- about how to adjust them.

It took a message to Support to learn that, yeah, ya gotta bend 'em: put your thumbs in the middle of the headband and pull outward with your fingers. That's not exactly a commendable feature; not the way a ratcheted slide in the middle of the headband would be.

My guess is that that feature exists... if you want to pay a hundred dollars more... but I admit I didn't check what's available on higher-priced models.

Audio Technica ATH-M50x

Very nice sounding headphones. Slightly warm with a little goose on the bass. These are not neutral. A lot of people consider them superior mixing and mastering cans. The ATH-M70x fits that bill more properly. Less coloring and very neutral.

I run flac files through my DAC, into my Aric Audio fully balanced tube preamp and then into my headphone amp and these things sound spectacular for the price. Got mine for $92 shipped. Lots of people sell these in like-new condition.

Awesome design and sound

Very nice headphones. The design makes it easy to use with one ear without wearing the headphones. It also sounds very good when just listening to music and not monitoring. Sound quality is excellent. Totally recommend.Read full review

Fantastic sound at a reasonable price

I also have Sony MDR7506 and Sennheiser HD280 Pro. These ATH-M50x have the best sound by a good
margin - percussion is especially good, small details of a complex mix come through clearly, and bass and treble
are well balanced without needing any EQ adjustment.

I've never tried high-end audiophile headphones, so I daresay if you spend twice as much there might be
something better out there. But at about $95 lightly-used, or $130 brand new, these are really really good,
and allow you to hear a lot more detail in whatever music you like.

AMAZING

I am beyond impressed. I ordered the headphones and within 2 days they were at my door. The packaging is beautiful, very organized and protected. The product is worth every penny. Great quality, easy to use, long lasting warranty and free shipping. Not to mention 35% cheaper than retail! All in all, I am more satisfied with this purchase than I have been with any other company I've used for anything! Thank you audio technica, thank you Sweetwater!Read full review

Heaven for my ears

I said lightweight but I think that's subjective honestly. However, at 5'1" I'm petite and a lot of things seem really big and heavy to me but these don't make me feel tired at all, even after hours of playing games or listening to music while working. And no, these headphones are not small. If I tilt my head back too far they start to slip off, but that's obviously because I'm on the smaller side of things. Had my family take turns wearing them (5'4" to 5'10" no unusually large or small heads) and they fit great on them too. I love that they are around the ear because sometimes my little on-ear Sennheisers can make my ears a little sore when I'm wearing my glasses (I still love those, too, though). And the audio quality on theses...By far the most gorgeous I've ever heard. Haven't had any static or crackling or squeaking or whining that really low and really high notes can get sometimes. Everything is so clear that I feel like I've only ever been listening to things with some kind of sheet in between. Sometimes I think they sounds clearer than real life. The first time I listened to these I got heart palpitations (still get them sometimes, especially with certain songs) and realized I've never had a significant other that I liked more than these headphones or curry. New requirement for future dating. On a more relevant note, when I'm playing games, especially stealth games, these make a difference. I can actually hear which direction guards' footsteps are coming from and have a way better idea how near/far away they are. I can also hear all sorts of background effects and tracks on songs I had no idea were there. I'm really enjoying listening to all my music and discovering all the little things I could never hear before. 5/5 since that's how ratings actually work, but my heart says 10/5Read full review

Audio technica m50x’s

Is this worth the buy ? Yea I’d say it is the box wasn’t in to bad of a condition but other then that came with all three cords and the headphones I’ve been wanting forever if you can’t afford to buy them brand new for the 169 $ then this is the better alternative I’m really happy with this purchase and all I had to do was wait a few days and clean the headphones and then just plug and play absolute beauty’s these are highly recommend but I wish I could’ve gotten the red and gold ones still but highly recommend this if you can’t afford the new ones solid purchase Read full review

Audio-Technica ATH-M50x Headphones

Sound quality is good, feel is a bit heavy and clunky. Cannot adjust as they would be too big for my head so they are ok. Wanted closed headphone to use for work and at home otherwise, I would have gone with the Sennheiser HD598's which had excellent sound but were open and allowed too much sound in at work. The Sennheiser were also very light and fit and weight were excellent too. Will buy them next year when budget allows. Read full review

Perfect for Heavy Rock Music

I tried other headphones that were a lot more expensive than the ATH-M50x and none of them rocked like these. The bass response is outstanding and the treble is perfect for rock music. If you are into loud rock music, don't be fooled by the headphones with high impedance. The ATH's are what you need. Just two caveats. One, you need the power to really make them sing whether that's a powerful home receiver (preferably the old school 2 channel variety) or a strong headphone amp that requires its own power supply. Two, these are for home use only.Read full review
