Audiolab 8000S Digital Pre-Amp/Processor

8000a is a great sounding amp, but the 8000s is better

there are two versions of the 8000s, an earlier 'made in England' version and the later 'designed in England'. the outward differences are in the volume knob and the speaker posts. The earlier model has a fuller-bodied sound which some prefer. Both have remote control and the only criticism is the click through the speakers when changing input. I am using the later 8000s with Quad 21 speakers and very pleased with the sound, very clear, deep, detailed, neutral, excellent hi-fi, as much power as you'll need, and better than anything i have owned up to present, great value for money. The 8000s has a mode selector switch and can be used as an integrated amp, as a pre-amp or as a power amp. Using the 8000s as a pre-amp and adding a similar quality power amp takes your hi-fi to the next level. My previous amp was an Arcam a65+ integrated which has a smoother sound but less clarity and detail than the Audiolab, the Arcam also throws the music round the room more (stereo image). Interestingly the remote controls use the same codes so there is some interchangeability there. Audiolab 8000s

I have this amplifier for just for a couple of months now and listening throughout a pair of new tannoy mercury 7.4 speakers with a older rotel rcd955ax cd player and I must admit that I am really happy with the clarity of this amplifier.
