Underwhelmed

I am a big fan of Bose and own many products. Couldn't hear the TV over the air conditioner so I purchased the Solo 5 for my 5th wheel RV. Solo 5 provided no improvement when watching over the air programming. However, volume is much better when watching satellite TV, but still not "stellar". Also, I found the music to be only slightly better than a cheaper blue tooth speaker I use. I plan to keep this rather than return it, but I would not buy another. Eventually, I will likely move this to another TV and purchase a powered sub and satellite speakers. Not a bad product, just not up to my expectations.Read full review

Bose solo 5

I picked up one of these Solo 5 for my living room TV, since we were only using the TV speakers at the time for sound.

Found mine for a little under $100 shipped, which I'm absolutely ok with paying. Bose quality.

I found this soundbar had too much bass once you cranked the bass up. It didn't distort any sounds, but it completely overpowered the rest of the sound.

The quietest it will go is actually a touch too loud for me to leave on when my baby is sleeping, and it goes way louder than I would ever need. For most people, it would be perfect volume.

I haven't played around with settings much, but I've only found a bass adjustment, no other equalizer options. The sound is really good regardless, but I like to tweak. Having the bass adjustable does a fine job though, the factory equalizer settings are pretty good.

The physical construction of the bar feels solid, heavy, and rugged. I wouldn't be worried if this fell off the entertainment center at all.

If they add more equalizer adjustability (or if I find out they did and I just can't find it), I would give this 5 stars as long as it was purchased for around 100-150 bucks, maximum.
Over that amount, and you could get a bar and woofer combo instead, but this bar needs no subwoofer I promise you.

Great price and nice sound.

It is smaller then most sound bars and is relatively easy to hook up and use. The sound is a great improvement over the tv speakers. Only problem I had was that when you put the sound bar in front of my Sony tv it blocked the remote from talking to the tv. I had to get a 2 by 4 to raise up the tv. No real problem other then that. The price was good and the sound bar was delivered in two days.Read full review

Great to enhance the sound on your TV!

The sound on this is awesome! Do not buy this expecting to get surround sound. This is specifically used to enhance your TV's sound. I bought it for my in-laws. My father-in-law is hard of hearing, not using a hearing aid, and he has noticed a difference in hearing the TV. He said, you also notice the sound during music. It has good base considering it does not have a subwoofer. Bose has done it again.Read full review

Good value and has great features

The product works excellent and was easy to install. I found that it was manufactured in 2018, but the warranty is valid only with a receipt of purchase. So, it must have been in the supplier's inventory for 2 years. Read full review

Compact unit.

Good value for the money - I'm glad I didn't pay $239.00 for the new product. The refurbished model shipped quickly and couldn't tell the difference from a new unit. I bought the unit to clarify the voice that sometimes is muffled watching DVD movies. Still have some issues with the problem even with the TV speakers turned off and the Bose unit set to speech.

Unit was not user friendly for set up on the remote. Over all Bose makes quality products but overpriced. For an everyday sound bar the remanufactured unit is at a good price point. I would probably buy it again since most units in that price range are marginal.

Into the 21st Century

This is an excellent sounding speaker that I am using for TV sound, for listening to my music collection from the computer, and for streaming music from the phone or computer. It replaces a large component system, making much space available in the living room that was dedicated to the component stack, cabinet, and 5 speakers. Is the sound as room-filling as all of that old gear? No, of course not. But it is more than adequate for my current needs, it produces plenty of bass, and is a wonder for its size.Read full review

Adds the missing range from TV speakers

This sound bar adds the missing bass from TV speakers. Will it rattle your windows? No, that’s not what it’s for - instead, it provides great all around sound for a good price. Definitely increases the bass and lows while providing nice mids and clear highs.
The dialogue boost feature is a fantastic feature. We watched Spider-Man without having to turn the volume up and down to hear dialogue while countering sound effects. Nice feature to add to our movie watching experience.

The speaker is decent.

The speaker is good and does enhance the sound. I have 2 issues with it. One is that the universal remote is bad. At the slightest angle the tv will turn on and not the speaker (you can program it to do this). If you’re just a little to the left or right of the speaker, it won’t turn on. If you’re directly in front of the speaker then it works fine. The okay button on the remote doesn’t work either, meaning I have to use my other remotes. The second issue I only experienced one time, but it still made me nervous. The volume was going up and down as I was watching a show and I wasn’t touching the remote. Not sure why that happened but it didn’t happen again. Or at least I don’t think it did. It’s a fair price but I wish the remote worked better. I will say if I were to pay full price for this item I would feel robbed.Read full review
