smooth lens and great features
This lens is now my new favorite. If you're used to a smaller/non-bulky lens, it can be a little intimidating to get used to using but once you do, you will not be disappointed. It's easy to switch out with other lenses. The focus is sharp and the zoom is great. It's smooth in adjusting and gives a lot of options on what kind of image you're going for. The only downside for me so far, is with the autofocus (if not using manual), it can take what feels like forever before it actually focuses. It focuses for a split second and then slowly.......... adjusts and refocuses once again. I feel like it takes a minute but id said in the range of up to 30 sec depending on the lighting and whatnot. I'm not an aficionado in photography, still learning, so pardon if this doesn't help a lot of people, but just from an extreme novice's point of view, I do love this lens and the variety of options it gives me for taking photos at the price I got it for. I think it is well, well worth the sacrifice. You shouldn't regret it.Read full review

floppy Canon lens
Received item in a few days. It looks good and it works. My only complaint is the barrel of the lens is floppy, it rattles when you carry the camera. It also moves when you happen to bump it with you hand. I'm a little disappointed that the barrel of the lens is so loose. I'll have to replace it with a different lens later.Read full review

An Upgrade
I am enjoying the crisp images and the saturated colors that this lens produce. This lens takes me to a different level.
The downside of this lens, as with other heavy telephoto lens, is the lens ring drift. When the camera is held with the lens facing down, the lens ring does not hold the lens in place, but it extends. Not a deal breaker, but something to note, and even consider before buying. Ask the seller. This is a high quality lens that represents a good value.Read full review

Excellent lens for a walkaround
Excellent optics and has Image Stabilization which is very important, unless packing around a tripod on vacation is your idea of fun. Low distortion on both ends of the focal length with good center sharpness out to the 4 corners. There is some lens creep with this zoom and build quality is not stellar, but adequate. Highly recommended!Read full review

Great old lens for modern mirrorless cameras
Great old lens. I got it to use with a BlackMagic Pocket 4k with a native FD/M43 adapter (no speedbooster, just an adapter) so that I could have a 70-210mm effective focal length in a lightweight package. I like that this lens is parfocal meaning it stays focused when zooming. Makes it nice for video. Has a great warm tone to it and interesting sun flares. Not the greatest or sharpest lens compared to newer EF models but has very nice character. I plan on using it on my Sony Mirrorless cameras also.Read full review

Good value lens for beginners
If you are lucky enough to get your hand on a good copy. Optical glass is sharp and not too much CA and distortion. Auto focus is not fast but not slow either. It's quiet and smooth. Lens was not built like L type but plastic feels solid and nice. I don't like the location of the manual focus ring. Lens barrel creep is obvious (but can easily be addressed with a thick rubber band). I.S. is helpful somewhat for hand-held shots but not as good as L lens. Everyone might have a bit different experience based on the used copy they have. Lens had been designed and made for quite a longtime (1998 - 2006). However for the price in 2020, it's still worth it to obtain one for casual shooting events.Read full review

Great lens, with one small caveat.
Love it. Great optically, excellent AF. The IS servos make next to no noise. But if you use your DSLR to record video with onboard DSLR mics (never recommended except for reference purposes), because of the on-camera mic position behind the lens, there may be some servo bg noise on audio tracks. Sometimes. My hot shoe mount shotgun is free and clear of BG noise. Read full review

Good workhourse lens
I dont think this was ever one of Canons stellor lenses. But it was reasonably priced, had a good focal range, and it got the job done. The lens I purchased still met those requirements as a replacement for a similar lens that was stolen in Europe, and I am happy to have this replacement lens in my bag again!!Read full review

Heavier duty lens for the right price. Not recommended for walk-around shooting.
This lens is a compliment to my Rebel T5 kit. This is the lens that comes with the Rebel T6i and T6s. Same aperture as the 18mm-55mm that comes with my Rebel T5, albeit heavier, and able to zoom to 135mm. I rarely take photos at the 18mm level with my primary lens, usually shooting in the 35, 55 range, and it's nice to bridge the gap between the two lenses that came with the kit. Initially heavier, but it's built with quality glass and metal, not plastic. Still haven't gotten a filter I like for it, so its on stand-by until I do. Because of the larger size 72mm vs 58mm, I think the pics are bigger. Haven't tried it for movies yet, but I do enjoy using it for manual mode, more than my other primary lens. Good value for the right price.Read full review

Great lens for not much money.
Great zoom range to fit most picture applications. Lens is in great condition as described. Bought it for my film camera however will also fit digital cameras in the EOS line up.

Great pictures but noisy lens
I give the pictures from this lens 5 stars. Very sharp, great colors, and lots of detail. The image stabilization is also amazing.
I give the lens itself 4 stars because it is very noisy. It makes a churning noise whenever I have the camera on and the autofocus is louder than expected. For someone shooting primarily video this would be a big problem, but it passes for a picture heavy user.Read full review
