Amazing Camera!!

I am not a pro. In fact this I would consider to be my first camera & the ease of use is superb! I got this camera to be able to use for my YouTube channel & also to capture memories with my family. This camera takes AMAZING pictures & once I studied how to work the video part, it creates great quality videos! I’m so happy that I decided to get this camera. All the bells and whistles in compact form but very toy-like. Not good for large hands.

As an owner of 3 other Canon EOS DSLRs, I was excited about adding this supposedly compact version containing all the latest Canon upgrades. Afterall, it was listed by all the camera mags as one of the top 5 DSLRs of the year. However, upon delivery and comparison to my Canon T3, T6, and 70D, this camera contained the goodies in a very cheap feeling, lightweight, plastic body. Granted, it is made for beginners but it still has the latest Digic processing system 7, their hottest CMOS dual pixel focusing feature which is great for well-focused videos and shooting pics off the LCD screen vs through the viewfinder., an articulating high pixed LCD, etc. However, in shooting with it, it didn't have that "solid" shutter click that all my older, less featured Canons have. In addition, it was TOO compact for my large hands, thus the toy-like feeling. I did a test comparison of a scene and shot it was all 3 DSLRS, the SL2 showed no improvement or difference in results, plus it didn't fit my hand well, so I sent it back. To get the "old" Canon quality, I suggest sticking with the dual pixel 70D, or it's latest upgrade, the 80D which is a great camera with a professional feel.Read full review

Perfect, high quality camera for beginners and vloggers

Let me start out by sharing a general overview: the main differences between this Canon SL2 camera and more expensive ones like the Sony a7ii pretty much all have to do with photography. If you are getting this mostly for video/vlogging, there's really no need to spend more.

The only other difference is build quality, but I must say this "low end" SL2 is feels sturdy and heavy; there are minimum standards with these cameras and here they are all met.

The other cameras take better pictures because of the much higher number of points of focus.

At first the camera buttons and options seem daunting and intimidating but the user interface on the touch screen is so user friendly that, after just a full day of use, I had all the basics down. I was shooting, adjusting, and transferring my captures via wifi and Bluetooth in no time.

And I must say... The ability to connect your phone to your camera as if it were a wifi router (without internet access of course) and then transfer captures is really nifty.

Small, compact, affordable camera

Great camera, great price!

At first I was a little concerned that the packaging was written, completely in Spanish, also the language the camera was set to was Portuguese. The bottom of the camera is marked, Industria Brasileira, Brazil. The camera is labeled Rebel SL2, not 200d. I can not find any difference between this camera and the ones you see at the local camera store. I really love my new little camera, and wouldn’t think twice about buying it again. This is my first Canon camera and I have to say, the image quality is there, coupled with a good large aperture prime lens, is a fantastic combination, especially for video. Great entry level DSLR!

The SL2 is perfect for someone who wants more professional quality photos and video without spending over a grand. I mostly use this for Youtube content and I can say it does well for that. Some were saying that the viewfinder was lacking, and I mostly dissagree. I think the viewfinder works well for an entry-level DSLR. I have no trouble using it to get great quality photos. The only thing I would change is more batteries (or cheaper OEM batteries) since they don't last long when recording. However, I wont nock it a star because you can just pick up some off-brand batteries for cheap. I included a picture of my new beardie, Uluru (now has his own Instagram..), as an example of a casual photo taken with the SL2. :)Read full review
