Better vision than reality

This is a brilliant idea but not a great execution of that idea. I was looking for a way to wirelessly view my computer screen on my television. It does not exactly do that. Only Google programs such as Chrome browser can cast to the unit. Other devices to do similar
things are generally a lot more money.
Also, the Chromecast will sometimes pause saying "buffering.". Also, it often disconnects from the WIFI and will stop the program I am looking at and I will have to restart.
I am sure that over the next generation these issues will be addressed but we're not there yet.Read full review

Chromecast are easy to setup and use. I would highly recommend these.

I've just had them a week or so, and they are performing well so far. Setup is very easy and doesn't take very long. I have them on all my older TVs, except for my Smart TV that already has casting capabilities. The Chromecasts are a great way to get my Netflix, Prime, and cast my movies and photos. I already had the Google Home App installed, so I started using them right away. The reviews say 2nd generation performs the same as the 3rd, and the only difference is the hardware which of course will last longer because they are newer. Good way to bridge the gap between TV and internet on older TV's

Bought this for my parents who are just tech savvy enough for smart phones and basic computer use, and they can use this easily. It works much faster at connecting to devices than the gen 1 chromecasts which is a huge plus for my aging smartphone. My only complaint is that the device can't be powered by the HDMI alone on our TV so the Chromecast stays powered on all the time when using the power cord, and it's usually warm to the touch so it's just wasting power. Otherwise for the price it's a great gadget for just about anyone who likes to stream occasionally.Read full review

this thing turns any dumb monitor or tv into a "smart" tv. the best thing about it is it's from google and there is a good amount of app support.

I love how simple it is. All it does is project whatever is on your phone or computer onto the tv. No need for complicated menus, remote controls with 100's of buttons. No need to type using some junky on screen keyboard. You just use whatever app and click the display on chromecast button.

I think it is better than the smart tvs from major tv brands. It's so simple, my non-techie wife and senior parents can use it. Read full review

Better than Apple TV for streaming

I bought a new Apple TV and this to stream movies from my phone to tv. I returned the Apple TV and bought 3 chromecast. It all depends what you want it for. It streams flawless and is fast and easy.r>
To do the same with Apple TV I had to turn on mirroring. It was slow and didn't connect well. The screen on your phone has to be on the entire time. You can't use your phone to do other things. Text messages and everything pop up while watching something.

Chromecast connects so much better. You can use other apps, text, use Internet, etc while streaming content. No private text come on the screen for everyone to see. The only drawback is that you can't stream iTunes. That's Apple being Apple though.Read full review

Great product

So far the chromecast has been great. I’ve had the first gen Chromecast for a while now and it was starting to fall apart. The 3rd gen seems sturdy and it easily connects with my phone. No more waiting for connectivity! I did have trouble with my tv remote after I set up the 3rd gen chromecast. the remote had completely stopped working. Resetting the tv took care of this but it was a hassle to pull off with out a working remote. I have always liked my 1st gen chromecast and the 3rd gen as a replacement is wonderful. Chromecast doesn't work well for me.

Under the right circumstances it may be great, but not for me. I had a generic AnyCast streaming device and thought I'd upgrade to a better device. The Chromecast requires Internet bandwidth and I'm only needing it to stream downloaded content from my phone to my TV. The initial update took about 40 minutes...I don't know why it took that long. If my Internet connection momentarily drops (I live in a rural area and have satellite, which does) the audio stops streaming. I've had multiple problems with the Chromecast losing Internet connection and not allowing me to cast. Since I've had the Chromecast, I've spent just as much time trying to get it working as I've spent watching casted content. The AnyCast device I have cost a fourth of the price and works way better for me. I will probably sell this and by another AnyCast device.Read full review

Easy to setup so long you use your mobile device.

I couldn't get to setup the device using my desktop computer as the link never worked and/or couldn't detect the device on my network.Other than that downloading the app on my phone and set it it up was really easy.
