battery fire

One of the batteries caught on fire and am still waiting for a reply from the supplier to see if the other is safe to use. I have been waiting several days after supplying pictures of the damaged battery to get a replacement. The supplier said that he had not heard of any batteries catching on fire whereas there is much evidence of this on youtube etc and a warning of this on the Makita`s website. We were disappointed that the batteries were supposed to be "Makita" not "for Makita". They don't appear to be genuine Makita batteries ie no where marked Makita on the batteries. Other ads near where I was viewing prior to purchasing, if they were not genuine, the ads were marked "FOR MAKITA" as this should have been. Makita LXT 18V Li-Ion 3.0AH BL1830 AUS model

Genuine product, I have only received it last month. It ran flat after after 15 minutes use just mucking around, but only because of the initial factory charge. It stopped working the drill exactly as it should. These STAR smart batteries stop working before they are completely flat so as to protect the battery and circuitry. I charged it up on my standard Makita charger (DC18SD 2.6Amp output {47W} ) and it is now working perfectly well and holding charge. I do not work it much but it seems to do everything it should to date. The indicator on the battery and also on the DHP481 Drill show it still at full charge after a month of sporadic work. Excellent product to date...

I have heard the quick charge battery charger (DC18RC 9.0Amp (165+W) output can fry the small 1.5AH batteries if used incorrectly, So if you not needing a fast charge for work you may be better using the standard charger. My genuine charger has a makita sticker on the underneath detailing outputs etc.

The only downside to the battery is it's weight. But you can't have everything.Read full review
