Unbelievable.
Harmon Kardon has not made these for years. I purchased a refurbished one 5 years ago for the same price, it is loosing the left channel. Probably a bad capacitor. I was going to purchase a used one for about $200 with shipping to hold me over while I got this one repaired and then out of the blue this add popped up at like 1:00 AM. I should have purchased 2, oh well, too late they were all gone in like 12 hours. The replacement for the HK3490, the HK 3770 is no where near as good as the older 3490. I was thinking about one of them, but they weigh less, so no where near the rated power as the transformers are way lighter. Also I need a separable pre amp/power amp and the 3770 does not offer that. Harmon Kardon no longer sells the really good stuff under their name, but under one of the other brands under their corporate umbrella. It's a shame. A friend of mine has one of their older massive receivers that he said he paid like $1200 for. It's a real shame that they didn't just upgrade the 3490 and add all of the other stuff that is in the 3770 like Bluetooth for instance. The way these sold out so fast you would figure that Harmon would do just that. Now I just have to save up the coins for another pair of NHT Super Two's and another pair of Sony subs for an absolutely killer system.Read full review

Ok quality
Fit and finish could be of a higher standard. Power seems low for it's 100+watts a cannel. Sound quality is good.

Great 2-channel receiver!
This was my first receiver purchase but I’ve grown up with my dad’s sansui receiver. I was looking for an updated receiver to match my Boss 901s. So far, it works fantasticly. No problems whatsoever. It’s not as updated as the new receivers with multiple hdmi’s and optical inputs but it’s enough for me. I mainly want my receiver to be my channel for music and sound. I also appreciated it had at least on optical input. Makes it easier to connect to my modern TV. I also like my phono input for my record player. I plan to add a sub soon to compliment my speakers, and possibly satellite speakers.Read full review

HK 3490 is a great stereo receiver so maybe Harman International Industries will engineer these again for the consumer market
owned both the HK 3485 and HK 3490 stereo receivers at one time so, it's nice to be able to pick one up again. some of the features which I like are:
- at 8 Ohms - 120 watts per channel with binding post speaker connectors to accept banana plugs.
- preamp-out / main-in loop system expansion connections and/or/which can be used to expand from 4 to 8 speakers.
- added connections for an XM, digital optical audio inputs and 2 sub-woofers.Read full review

Old quality stereo
Needed a stereo receiver with external amp in to connect my pair of Bose 901 speakers. The sound is crisp and it delivers POWER.

Harmon Kardon HK 3490
This is a nice receiver. It has lots of inputs: Phono, CD, 2 Tape In / Out, 3 Video In / Out, Sub Woofer Out. Works great for driving Bose 901s. Comes with a remote control.
