the other review is BOGUS

these are not "just aluminum". they are alloyed especially for brazing. simply picking up a coke can absolutely won't work. i wouldn't say "the price is excellent" however it is competitive for these products from any mfg

i've used a different brand previously (which looks the same) and it works well - easier than silver soldering pipe (that's braze welding btw). the result can be a thick pool of aluminum bonded as part of the aluminum that is stronger than one would think from the (softness) of the rod before brazed in (ie, if brazed to 1/4" you'd have to cut it you cannot simply bend it or pull it out, it's nearly as strong as the aluminum your bonding or stronger if your aluminum part is poor quality, not dense or alloyed, aluminum).

proper USE: the tendancy is if you overheat the aluminum (parts) your brazing together will also pool (melt) - which often is not wished (ie, unless it is in a mould so it can't run away). the difference between pooling only the rod and "just a little" of what is being welded is famously a light touch: however the need for doing that can be avoided by setting up the weld so there is nowhere to run (set in a mould). there are plenty of braze welding books out there for free these days, i imagine.

i give it 4 stars not because it's not a good product, but because other welding rods (brass rods) are cheaper for the weight and more available - while aluminum is more expensive and not in retail stores (hard to find)Read full review
