An excelent entry level illuminated keyboard, with a few caveats.

The Logitech K740 looks and acts like your typical bog-standard desktop keyboard, with the addition of having a reasonably good backlight to boot. It'd be a five-star thing for me, if not for a few little nitpicks here and there.

Overall, the build quality is as good as you'd expect from any Logitech keyboard, lightly built, but still pretty solid. The keys are set up with that rubberlized 'laptop' feel, unlike mechanical keyboards, but they still have more of a substantial 'click' to them then any of my laptops do. That might make or break it for some of you, but it does type quite a bit better then the acer keyboard it replaced.

It has a whole host of the standard 'media' keys, for a few different common functions, but they're fixed in function, so if you don't use the 'eject' function, it's not remappable (nor should you expect that in the price range I bought this at). The one main nitpick here is that the light key has three set modes, and no ambient light sensor, so you'll have to scroll through the 4 settings (stupid bright, slightly less stupid bright, not bright, and off) until you find something that matches the light level. This one also seems to have a tiny bit of light leaking out on the side which is distracting at full brightness.

The other main nitpick comes mainly from lack of adjustment. this thing is a bit to 'flat' for me, and the feet are not quite long enough. It's not all bad, though;they had the common sense to make the feet open from the sides, so accidentally pushing the keyboard forward doesn't close the feet like it does on the other keyboards I've owned

Logitech has lots of software to control things via the desktop, but this keyboard is not compatible with any of it. in retrospect, I might have saved a bit more and gone with a G series keyboard. Overally, it's a great keyboard, much better then the others have had over the last few years.

as a side note, the status lights are below the number pand on this, not above like everything else. not bad, just something to get used to..

Logitech K740 Keyboard made to perform

This is a superior keyboard. I purchased the first one a few months ago. Liked it so much, when we added another terminal to our business, I had to add this keyboard to the set up. If you type fast and do not like the lag from poor quality keyboards, this solves that problem. Great response with the keys that allows you to type fast without this slowing you down. Very durable and very sturdy. In addition, this is a true plugin play keyboard. Plug the USB into your USB port and my computer found the hardware and loaded the firmware. In less than a minute, my keyboard started working!Read full review

Best Keyboard!!

I type all day for work (8-10 Hours a day) and I have had MANY keyboards throughout the years. This is hands down the best keyboard I have ever used. It is quiet and comfortable. I love that the keys are illuminated! I highly recommend this for anyone that is looking for a new keyboard. Read full review

Easy on the Fingers

I purchased this keyboard specifically because of the soft-stroke keys and it didn't disappoint. The key strikes are smooth and silent and are easier on my fingers than my previous keyboard, which was much less comfortable on the fingers after a day of work at the office. My only knock on the keyboard is that the cap lock key and the shift key are spaced where I hit the cap lock sometimes when I am trying to hit the shift key, but that's only an occasional occurrence. Overall, I would recommend this keyboard to anyone who likes a keyboard with a smooth, quiet key strike that's easy on the fingers.Read full review

I'm a Logitech Fan

I've always liked their mice. Keyboards are not that big a deal with me, but I'm fussy about how the keys feel. These feel good (the laptop feel, & smooth & quiet). I got this keyboard SPECIFICALLY for the backlighting. LOVE that. Also it's not too big, for a full size. My only complaint is the orange icons on the function buttons. I just don't like orange. Plus I wish it was wireless, but I suppose the lighting would eat up batteries. Overall a good keyboard at a good price.Read full review

Best Keyboard Ever Purchased

I've bought this keyboard for all of my employees and have one at the office for myself as well as home. These keyboards aside from being wired are the best keyboards I've ever used, very comfortable to use, slim, quick type, back lit, and overall awesome. If you're looking for the end all be all keyboard this is it, don't waste your money on anything else.Read full review

Went from wireless to wired!

This keyboard comes in a wireless version and this one, a wired. I had both on two different PC's. I bought this to swap out the wireless one.
Reason? The lighted keyboard, and how long the charge held in the wireless one. The lighted keys are much brighter on this one vs. the wireless model. Also, while it is a usb 2 connection, I found I had to plug in my wireless one twice a week to recharge the built in batteries (no you can't put in fresh ones).
Also the wireless one, to save power turns off the lighted keyboard in short order when not in use (like reading this review). When it comes back on, it comes on at the lowest setting and has to be Fn keyed up to see the keys at a brighter illumination.
In the end, these keys are brighter all the time, and don't shut off when reading a web page. The fact that now I have a wire plugged in all the time with USB, the keyboard is properly lit when I begin work in the very early hours.

No noise

I love this keyboard. You don't hear anything when you type, and the back light is great! I had one of these keyboards before and my kitten managed to pull some covers off the keys. I kept using it instead of using the one that came with computer. I hope I can continue to purchase this.Read full review

Excellent product

I love how these keys require low pressure impact. The keyboard came in excellent condition. I type an average of 1500 lines in a working day. These keyboards last about a year for me (the control key is always first to go.) Knowing this, it is not the keyboard's fault, as every keyboard sustains wear and tear. It is much, much cheaper to replace it with a very good refurbished board instead of paying full price. Highly recommendRead full review
