Why use plastic?

Disposable plastic blade cartridges aren't any safer and don't shave any closer than this quality metal safety razor does. In fact, I've had plastic shavers that lose their hold on their replaceable cartridges and I've been cut by their errant blade. Merkur classic razor

This is the best razor I have ever used. I have been afflicted by razor bumps my entire adult life and have tried several razors and shavers with little to no success. First time I have used a double edged razor in over 50 years. I really like the smoothness of shave with this razor.
