Problem with connection between transceiver and mouse
Hi,
I have recently purchased this mouse and, after installing all drivers and setting up everything, the mouse does not work. If I plug in the transceiver, Windows recognizes the device (through Microsoft Mouse and Keyboard Center software). On the mouse side, the blue light is on, and also the small green light at the top goes on when I turn on the mouse. But still, when I move the mouse nothing happens with the pointer (arrow) on the screen.
I have tried this on 2 different computers and still does not work.
Can anyone let me know if the installation process was this complicated? Aren't you supposed to just plug in the transceiver and, basically, the mouse starts to work? Is it a more complicated process with wireless mice?
Thank you.Read full review

Don't buy one of these new MS mouse products
I had to return this item because the intellipoint software cannot detect the 4000 mouse. A web search confirmed that others have had a similar issue, and there is no response from Microsoft, other than guesswork by their community members and no reports of a good fix.
I reinstalled by previous Microsoft 7000 mouse, and the software detected it right away. The older 7000 uses a transponder that is about an inch long, and the new 4000 mouse used a very small transponder. This change in hardware design could be associated with a change in product manufacturing. I would steer clear of this one.Read full review

Great mouse, good price.
The Microsoft wireless Mobile Mouse 4000 is a great buy because it has graphite edges to hold your grip on the mouse even with sweaty hands. Its price is really nice too and Microsoft mouses really last and they can take a beating all while using a great laser. The laser is so good it'll even work on glass. How's that for functional? I've owned Microsoft mouses for years so I know what I'm talking about when I say this is one mouse you shouldn't do without.Read full review

Great wireless mouse choice even in 2019
I almost gave up on wireless Microsoft mice until I got this one. Very nice & solid design with rubber for thumb & pinky, a usb thimble that's well concealed when plugged in, clicking is surprisingly quiet, scrolling wheel is butter-smooth without clicks (a turn-off for some people). The usb thimble included software can customize which buttons do what (eg configure for left hand). The mouse curve isn't too flat which is good for extended use without much fatigue. The mouse's weight is kinda hefty for its size, good IMO. My favorite thing is the battery life. I use the crud out of it yet it still just keeps going and going without low battery light showing (supposedly 8 months battery life with 1 AA, but not sure if true). My only issues are 1) I wish the mouse bump was higher for a more comfortable hand position, 2) even if you toggle "mouse doesn't wake up computer", it still does, so I have to turn it off when computer's sleeping. And 3) if the mouse is not being used in the thimble black end's direction, the reception is sloppy. The pro's far outweigh the con's, and if this one breaks for any reason, I'll definitely get another.Read full review

I oiled the wheel
This is probably my 3rd or 4th 4000 (mouse) , the wheels lose the rubber
right away usually , when the rubber fails you can still use the wheel.
This latest one I received 6 18 15 had wheel trouble after 15 min of use,
it was sticky , stop lurch , stick , ick.....I realized I might ruin it by
oiling it but it was terrible, so I took it apart (youtube video shows the hidden
screw, bottom side under the peal off back rubber bumper, it re-attaches
easily when done).
I used some Bearing oil , not 3 in 1 or wd40 but actual bearing oil like the oil
you'd use on radio controlled racing cars. I didn't have to take out the wheel,
it doesn't really come out, it is deceptive how it operates until you look closely.
I very sparingly added a couple drops of oil where the surfaces appear to meet,
spun the wheel and worked it back and forth, it didn't seem like it was doing
much of anything at first, but after a couple more drops and spinning about,
it freed up, has been working flawlessly and smoothly ever since.
I'm definitely not recommending you try this, I feel like I could have ruined it,
perhaps I got lucky, and the oil only got where it needed to be.
I could buy a different mouse, but this design has worked so well for me that
I can't imagine using anything else.
Don't forget , if the rubber fully jams and you have to clip it off and remove it
the wheel will still last for years, like my last one, in fact it still works, just that
the right click micro switch has gotten really evil, and un reliable, after many 1000's
of hours of use, actually a great value imo.....Read full review

Modern Mouse with too lite a touch
This is a current era mouse and so worked instantly upon plugging in the USB transmitter. Smooth action and comfortable grip. BUT - the force to activate the switches is way to lite for me. I want something with a stronger click. I will give this one away to someone who wants a lighter touch.Read full review

I've purchased this mouse 3 other times. I love it! Easy to use, responds as it should. I like the shape and how it feels under my large hand.

Good mouse for fabric surfaces
This mouse works well on fabric surfaces, such as the arm of your sofa. Other mice with red lasers have trouble locating a specific point of reference with fabric surfaces. As a result the cursor sometimes jumps around erratically. The Microsoft mouse uses a blue laser light that enables it to work as well on fabric surfaces as it does on solid.Read full review
