This is my third Nest unit, I have installed them in three homes now and have saved dollars on heating and cooling bills to pay for each unit within 6 months. They are very easy to install and to use as long as you can do simple wiring and you don't have a humidifier on your furnace. Adding the humidifier into the wiring is a little more complicated and you should have a professional install the unit for you. Programing is a breeze and for the most part it will program it's self. Excellent investment

The nest thermostat is an excellent product. It is easy to install and fairly straightforward to setup. I hate that it requires me to keep wifi turned on on my phone to use the auto away feature. I also dislike the fact that it doesn't provide more control for maintaining humidity levels. Otherwise, it does make it easy to setup a range to maintain the temperature at and being able to control and monitor the thermostat remotely from my phone is amazing.Read full review

I like the 3rd gen Nest

I am a long term Nest owner, owning the early gen 1 Nest. Nest has suffered for the past 3 years with bad software releases that have affected the operational features. I no longer had recommended Nest to friends and relatives due to the fact that you needed to almost have some type of technical background with trouble shooting and networks to resolve or live with the various issues. The crowning blow was the fall of 2015 where Nest broke the early on feature with a software release. We struggled all winter with Nest being unable to resolve the issue. I truly thought that if my gen 1 Nest failed, I'd probably move to a different smart thermostat.

Well management within Nest has changed and software releases came over the summer. When winter came I found that things were working well with the gen 1. With a utility rebate of $100 and a great Ebay price, I decided to dip my toe in the water and upgraded to the gen 3. First I've noticed that things just run better with the gen 3. Early on is running better, temperatures are being maintained better and I love the larger screen and the far sight screens.

So, I'm giving Nest another shot. While it still is early in my ownership of the gen 3, I'd give this version a definite thumbs up. Let's hope that Nest is now on the right track and that future software enhancements are as stable as what I have seen over the summer. The new hardware is certainly nice.Read full review

Easily update your thermostat to the 21st century!

The 3rd gen Nest thermostat has all the bells and whistles while still being very user friendly. When I found a $100 rebate on the Nest site from my electrical utility I knew it was time to act.
r>Was installation easy? I coached my 8 year old neighbor kid through it! He only had trouble getting a couple of the old screws loose and I drilled pilot holes for the Nest screws but otherwise he was able to do it as I read the installation guide to him. Everything you need is included, right down to a cute and clever little screw driver.

After getting the Nest on the wall and the wires from your HVAC connected to it, it is time to do some setup of the Nest itself. The interface is super easy- turn the Nest outer dial to change options and press the Nest to accept your selection. The wizard walks you through it and if you decide to change a setting later or your 8 year old assistant doesn't wait for your selection choice, everything can be adjusted in the settings menu. All told, we spent less than 30 minutes on installation from beginning to end.

The Nest connected to my home network without issue and immediately updated itself. I installed the Nest app on my iPhone and got connected to my Nest thermostat right away. The app works great and offers the ultimate in convenience. If I forget to turn the heat down when I suddenly need to leave or if I want to warm the house before getting home from a late night, the full range of controls and preferences are at my finger tips.Read full review

Black Friday sale came early!

The NEST thermostat I received was brand new in shrink wrap, never opened. Before I unpacked the box, I was a little worry about the statement on the box saying "For Nest Pro installation only, not for retail sale". However, when I opened the box, and have my son helping me to install it (since he had bought two new retail ones installed in his house previously), he said the included plates and instructions were exactly the same as the one he bought from BestBuy. I've been impressed by the ease of setup, and how well the Nest is learning what I want/need from a temperature standpoint. The incentives from my electric utility and state energy trust, help offset some of the upfront cost, and the average energy savings should pay for years to come. Patience is key

I like this product very much, but don't expect it to learn things overnight. It takes about a week or two after being hooked up for it to work as advertised. Otherwise, I'm very pleased with it and highly recommend it. The phone app is easy to use, simplistic, and the hook-up was a breeze, with detailed step-by-step instructions easy enough for a kid to understand. Forget about it!

Like the Ronco product, "just set it and forget it". This thermostat is great. Even if you set it and choose to not forget it, it's awesome. If it gets a little hotter/colder than you expect and you want to make sure your home will be comfortable when you get home, just pick up your phone and make it so. Having the ability to control and check your home's temp. while you're away I'd to cool. It even tells you the weather conditions outside your home, awesome.
