Ken Rockwell was right, this is a great camera body at a low price for such Nikon quality

Nikon and Canon are always make the top 2 pro SLR's and Lenses. Ken Rockwell always has the best most thorough and helpful reviews of their equipment. I was recently reading his review of this model and even though a have a more professional D300 and D600-- his review forced me to look for a D3300 body in good condition and reasonable enough in price to add to my collection. It is much lighter in weigh and has a number of great features for such an inexpensive body. I may take this on vacations with just a macro and a zoom Nikkor lens to make my pack lighter.Read full review

Decent value, but most of the bundled items are too cheap to be useful

The camera is good and you probably already know that, what you don't know is how good are the bundled items. Let me start by saying that I did get every item promised, but some of them are outright useless. The tripod is the biggest disappointment, as it's so flimsy that it's of almost no use in keeping the camera steady, and I couldn't make it level, so my shots would be lopsided. The desktop tripod is also definitely not designed for a camera of this size, but it's usable. Most of the smaller items are very nice to have, especially the memory card, card reader, and remote. The lenses, the macro and "wide angle", aren't full on lenses but merely attachments that you put on the kit lens, and they look horrible. You can see the rim in your shot, and that especially doesn't make sense for the wide angle one. The kit lens goes to 18mm, that's already fairly wide without needing an attachment that heavily distorts the picture and covers up the outer part.Read full review

Great starter set

As the title says this is a great starter set. This is our first camera that isn't point and shoot. It works great, and is really easy to use. We shopped around at local big box stores and found much smaller bundles, for about the same price. This bundle has everything you will need to start yourself out. The pictures we have taken so far are very crisp and clear. I can't wait to continue to experiment with the different lens' and filters.Read full review

Good Entry Level Camera at a Good Price

The camera is solid yet affordable and they wasted no time in getting it shipped. It comes with some nice extras as well. If you learn to use the manual features you can take professional looking photos. However I asked for the 18-55mm lens to be upgraded to the VR (vibration reduction) version which was a little more and they took care of me with no issues. This feature helps when using low light or slower shutter speed settings when camera movement can cause blurred pictures. I am very pleased with my purchase.Read full review

A miniature powerhouse

Small, fast, great image quality - what more could you want in a go-everywhere camera or an easy-to-pack backup for your bigger DX camera? I recently used the D3300 and Nikon's 18-140mm lens as my sole camera on a weekend of photographing news for several papers, and not only did it do all that I needed while not attracting undue attention, I was particularly pleased with its high-ISO image quality. Really the only criticisms are that some settings take more than one button push, and it's so small that it takes some getting used to for someone with big hands like me, but we're picking nits here. This is my new friend that I can take anywhere and be confident of getting a good, high-quality shot.Read full review

Great entry-level DSLR

This is a really nifty camera. With a very portable body size it is very easy to carry around and quickly take shots. The great 24.2 megapixel sensor along with no AA filter makes for some incredibly sharp images at this price point. I coupled this camera with a Nikon 35mm 1.8G and it became a bokeh powerhouse and allowed for some really great depth of field.

The only reason I am upgrading from this camera to a full frame is due to the lack of an autofocus motor within the camera. With an autofocus motor within the camera body, you would be able to greatly expand the range of lenses that the camera can use with autofocus and I value that highly. Beyond that, I also find that 11 autofocusing points with only 1 being cross-type are quite limiting, as your subject has to be in the center to be in sharp focus.

Nikon D3300 review

I would consider this camera an entry level camera for anyone interested in becoming a professional photographer. In the Auto mode it takes a real idiot to not take a good picture. It does everything for you. It sets the aperture, shutter speed and focuses the image. It is relatively foolproof and yet it has the flexibility to allow the operator to manually adjust all of these features to their hearts content. The kit is relatively complete for the needs of the weekend photographer.Read full review

Small form factor - big results

Upgraded from a Nikon D3100 so I already understood the features. The quicker shutter, faster processors and better CCD make this an easy upgrade. I take pictures for my kid's sports teams and coupled with a good lens, am able to get great action shots under stadium lights for soccer and in the natatorium for swimming. If you're looking to get a bit more serious about your pictures without "going pro", highly recommend you put this camera on your research list.Read full review

Great Camera!!

Small enough to carry everyday without weight on shoulder, but it carries tremendous high resolution of 24 mega pixels. Image quality, easy to use, very useful pre program picture effects are the most strong point of this camera. And of course, all those merits are comes with very affordable price tag!Read full review

The small body and the small hand grips are a big disappointment.

I used a Nikon D50 for ten years and I'm accustomed to a bigger camera body and with bigger hand grips. The small body and the small hand grips on my new D3300 are a big disappointment for me. I wish I had purchased the bigger Nikon D7200 instead but, I purchased the model I can afford.

The performance of this camera should be a big upgrade from my Nikon D50. After I have used this camera for a few months, I'll replace this review with one that is more in-depth.

The only lens I will be using on this camera will be my Nikon 18-200mm f/3.5-5.6G AF-S ED VR II Nikkor Telephoto Zoom Lens so, I may end up handling the camera by the lens more than by the the camera body, while shooting. Since I do most of my shooting with a monopod, the monopod may help me get along with the smaller grip size of the camera body. I'm going to make the best of this new purchase even though my first impressions are negative.
