it is not environmentally sealed from the elements

Original camera was the D3100. It is not sealed from the elements either. Ask me how I know. The D3300 replaces the D3100 after total submersion in a river. It was retrieved, but the damage was done. Had hopes it would be fine, but must admit it was DOA. Wasn't certain if it was the camera or lens that was ruined. Took my chances and upgraded to the D3300 due to the extra battery and charger. Turned out to be the electronics in the camera. I would have preferred upgrading to a D7100, but finances for this hobbyist would not allow the bump in price point for a midsize camera. A follow up purchase of a waterproof camera, the Canon compact D-30 helped in the decision to stick with the D3300. I was pleased with the results of the D3100, so figured the improvements over the D3100 was a no brainer. The price point is the same for the Canon D-30 point and shoot camera as the D3300 body. I hope to keep the new camera out of rivers so that it remains useful for a longer period than the D3100. Armed with both cameras affords versatility when out in the elements.Read full review

My only complaint is that the camera is a bit bulky. It's much larger than what I am used to. However, overall it is a great camera and takes wonderful pictures.
