Great bargain, great camera

The Nikon F100 35mm SLR camera is probably the best bang for your buck available today. It may not have all the features of the F6 or even the F5 but at about 1/2 the cost of a good used F5 it has all the features any of us need and will use as many or more of the Nikkor lenses. It's not only lighter than an F5 but anyone familiar with Nikon's family of DSLR's will feel right at home with the controls. I can go from my D700 or D7100 to my F100 and know right where everything is controlled from. The only real problem for me is now that I'm so used to digital, it's hard to reign in the shutter clicks when using film. In the old days I'd have to take my time composing, exposing, focusing etc. that now I've almost become lazy with bracketing and 'free film' with digital. Especially since my particular f100 has the MB-15 grip. I'm so tempted to set it on Cs (CH on the digital cameras) and fire away at 8FPS.
Overall I would recommend this camera for anyone looking to start shooting film with a relatively advanced SLR on a budget. It may even make you a better photographer, getting one back to basics as you will undoubtedly have to slow down and think before you shoot. Give one a look, I got mine, one in very good condition on ebay with the MB-15 grip for $200.00, a bargain!

Digital DSLR features in an analog camera

The F100 is an interesting camera with some advanced digital features – autofocus, multiple metering modes, shutter and aperature priority shooting – in a rugged film camera. They hold up well, look like every other Nikon DSLR and use common AA batteries so they're easy to "feed" while you're on the road.Read full review

Poor man's F6; terrific value in today's used market

If you're still shooting film, have one or more Nikon lenses, and don't want to come up with the big bucks for an F6... this is an excellent camera, Great value these days.

Excellent camera

This SLR professional camera feels solid, robust and it has an excellent grip. At its time it was compared to a Nikon F5 high end professional camera.

Good value

I bought it knowing that film door latches were broken. I did a search that on eBay there is a metal kit that you can glue to have the lathes more robust. You know what they say about engineered plastic. The rear film door was sticky a known Nikon problem. Easy to clean with 70% alcohol. The F100 was clean.Read full review

Added power provides better performance.

Adding a battery grip to my Nikon F100 improved the performance of the camera by providing a reliable power source. It speeds up everything from auto focus to shutter speed, improves my grip on the camera and I seldom have to worry about running out of battery power while shooting all day,Read full review

One of the absolutely best film cameras ever made

The Nikon F100 is one of the best film cameras ever made. Now, that you can buy one that looks almost new for US$100 or less there is no reason not to buy one. Solid, easy to work, it is a fantastic camera. Fast, smooth, rather quiet (on a relative scale), extremely well built. It works with every SLR lens that Nikon has ever made except pre-AI (and pre-AI can be converted for $25 and then will work just fine).Read full review
