This is my second stubborn dog collar for my new (second) dog. They work great! The dogs have never violated the boundry with these collars like they had with the previous collars. Online reviews have warned that the correction is strong so I set mine on the lowest possible setting and it is enough to get their attention and keep them in.
I've also read other reviews about poor battery life and my experience is the opposite. I got my first stubborn dog collar 7 months ago and it is still on the original battery. I keep taking it off the dog to test that it is still working.
I like being able to use a standard 9v battery and not have to use a specialty battery. Read full review

Not very tough, but fairly economical.

We've used these for years. Plan on replacing once a year. The seals often fail and they get wet inside from rain. Make sure you take them off at night or your dogs neck will get hot spots. The standard 9v battery is easily replaceable and economical, but it makes the box very large. If you have chewers, they will tear the boxes off of each others collars.Read full review

Worth the cost

I went through multiple knockoff collars and even tried the standard petsafe fence collar but my stubborn mutts would still cross the fence boundary. With this they don't even try to leave the yard anymore. Only downside is it's kinda bulky for a small dog but better then them getting smashed on the road.Read full review

Works, but

No doubt this collar works well, but it has not slowed down my 7 month old puppy...she gets a running start, flys over the underground line, yelps once and then happily wanders where she wants. It is a good thing I live far off the road.Read full review

All good. More sensitive than the other collars we have. It detects the underground fence 5 to 10 feet further away. The corrections are a lot stronger too.

Much more effective than the smaller ones

My oldest dog(lab) has very thick fur/skin. I started him on the "ultra light" and he literally had no response to the shock. It seemed like he couldn't feel it at all. The small receiver works fine on my other two dogs with thinner coats.
I got the RF-275 and it does much better. It's still a mild correction for the big boy, but it does seem to irritate him and dissuade him from approaching the boundary.Read full review

Quality

The petsafe stubborn dog receiver is good for larger dogs. It is the only receivers that we have used for 20 years. It lasts long as this is our 4th one. The first one was actually defective, and we lost our first dog. Each one after that either worn out from dog paws or broken peg from dog paws.
