This game follows a whole different story than what we're used to in the Pokemon series. Fighting and only being able to catch "shadow pokemon" make it a fun and unique twist. Also, as far as I know, there aren't any realy gyms or gym leaders (but I haven't really played too much of the game). Pokémon XD gale of Darkness is a good game, It shows that the GameCube has great graphics. The game brings a interesting story with the shadow Pokémon. The game focuses on double battles ( My favorite types of Pokémon battles.) the only down side is that you can only capture Shadow Pokémon. Ever since I saw Shadow Lugia for the first time I always wanted Pokemon XD. Fast forward a decade and here we are! This game plays great with no issues, I'm very happy. Great game to play for pokemon fans. (Some spoilers for the mechanics and story of the game)

Great game and compared with the most recent game in the series, way better in the battle when the pokemon attack and react to being hit. A lot of the moves have a unique way it was implemented in the game alongside how the pokemon react when doing them. The new mechanic of opening the hearts of shadow pokemon, a main part of the game, is interesting as the shadow pokemon moves are super effective against every pokemon while not against other shadow pokemon. Overall good but one thing that it doesn't do better than is the other games we have is that opening pokemon's hearts takes a lot of time even when you do lots of battling while limiting the moves the pokemon knows and they can go into reverse mode that makes it so you either waste a turn snapping them out of it or taking damage and you can't heal them at all.Read full review

Pretty great time all around with more difficulty.

The product was good, the gameplay was solid Pokemon with the most challenge for catching them in the entire series. Teams are limited, so getting a good composition is a challenge in itself.
Technical things, such as EV training, is still present, though is more of a hassle than in other installments.
The story is different and with a darker plot, and the graphics are pretty decent for gamecube era, with full 3d models for all Pokemon.
