River City Ransom (Nintendo Entertainment System, 1989)

Rivercity ransom. A classic.

A less common but well known nes game. It's a beat-em up but with a twist. You buy items and food to power up your character. Certain books unlock special moves like Stone fists. Grand slam is the most overpowered item in the game since it allows you to rapidly hit an opponent with any weapon.

I'd consider this a classic nes title and the fact that there's any physics in it at all is impressive. RPG factor + quirky bits of comedy mixed in with "BARF!"

It's hard but once you get powered up? it's tons of fun. The big minus is the jumping parts in the factory. Feels kinda cheap, and then figuring out how to jump onto the basketball hoop to get up the high school makes even less sense. Otherwise? this is great.Read full review
