Shimano PD M540 Pedals - The best performance v value pedal system
Shimano PD M540 pedals are just the best value performance v price spd pedals you can buy, when purchased at a good price online or by other means! To be fair despite the construction differences between models i.e. sealed pedal axles, there is little difference performance wise than M520 pedals, so if you can buy M540 pedals for less than the RRP price of M520 go for the M540 pedals.
If you are deliberating between the Shimano SPD-SL or SPD system for your bike/bikes, unless you are concerned about following trends or you are putting down over 1000w of power through your pedals, the SPD system is king for walking, just make sure your shoes are sized correctly and your cleats are fitted in the right position for all your pedals to ensure your pedalling is as safe and effective as possible.
