Another dependable radio from Sony
This is an old-fashioned, needle tuned, AM/FM radio. It may have some digital components, but functionally, it is like any analog radio from the past. It is easy to operate, has good sound, and the sensitivity is excellent. It will pick up distant stations (DX) without the addition of an external antenna, and it has a good solid feel to it. Both bands receive well, and although there is no stereo option for FM, the sound is satisfying as is. I highly recommend this radio to anyone looking for a mid-sized, no-frills two band receiver.Read full review

Lose weaker signals with AC adapter.
Sound is loud and clear. Reception is good under battery power but you lose weaker signals when you plug in AC adapter. Battery life is poor for normal use without AC adapter. The station I bought it for only cames in with battery power.Read full review

GOOD AM/FM RADIO
Nothing fancy, just AM/FM radio. Sound is very good. Runs on three AA batteries or supplied power cord.

The Best Radio, Period! Don't waste your time with anything else.
Killer tuning selectivity, and wonderful musical clarity using headphones or the internal speaker. Yes, it's mono like the Panasonic RF-2400D, but infinitely better, and unlike the Panasonic you actually get audio in both ears when plugging in any kind of headphone. Changing the position of the antenna makes an enormous difference in reception which is not the case with most radios. Even AM is good though there's nothing really worthwhile listening to on AM except Emergency Broadcasts. I also own the ICF-19 which is the same radio but is exclusively battery powered with three D batteries and plays up to 400 hours! The ICF-506 uses three AA batteries, so it can't compete with the ICF-19 in terms of battery power. The volume control on the 506 is smooth and allows for small changes in volume unlike the Panasonic which goes from a whisper to blasting your ears.Read full review

Great Radio
I love the size, quality and the fact it can also run on batteries.

Perfect on the roof!
We have a roof deck on our flat roof. The quite old Sony clock radio we were using up there got very inconsistent reception -- sometimes pretty OK, sometimes lots of static and frequency drift.
>This new one is ideal: it locks into stations perfectly and the sound is clear and static-free. We wondered whether the analog tuner would be less precise than digital...nope, it's just fine. We're totally satisfied with the radio.Read full review

Cord comes out
The AC cord has trouble staying plugged into the radio. It's a hassle when it keeps coming loose.

Poor quality radio
This is a cheap radio with no fine tuning, poor quality sound, poor reception even with antenna up. This was for my very ill mother's hospice room so she could listen to nice music and the radio was useless.Read full review
