Strong entry level sound bar

Great addition to my Sony Bravia HD TV, easily set up in 5 minutes, sound is crisp and the subwoofer emits nice bass. For a small/mid size room it's more than powerful enough and the quality never distorts even on the higher volume..

good but could be better

I bought a Sony Soundbar to go with my new Sony Bravia 49" 'smart' TV expecting a reasonable degree of 'smart' integration of the 2 products. Whilst the soundbar is a perfectly good product in its own right with great sound for the price it unfortunately falls short on the integration front.
First thing you notice is that you have a separate remote control with no facility to control the sound through the soundbar from the Sony TV remote. So; two remotes already and for anyone with Sky or Virgin Media that's 3 needed for your viewing experience.
The next (little) problem rolls on from the first. Because there is no integration, when you adjust the volume for the soundbar there is no display for the volume level on the TV.
The final problem, small again but really annoying! is that when you sit the soundbar in the natural place directly in front of the TV it gets in the way of the receive sensor for the remote control on the TV meaning you have to raise the TV remote in your normal sitting position to get a clear line of site and make it work. Bearing in mind I am talking about two new Sony products, I wouldn't expect this to happen. Another 1cm higher for the TV stand would have rectified this so Sony are clearly not testing their products together.
If you don't mind working around these niggles it does what it says on the tin but 3 out of 10 Sony for integrating your products.Read full review

Sound quality good and it is very compact. Annoying when it switches itself off!

Instructions are clear and the sound quality is quite good for music and clear speech. It has an annoying tendency to switch itself off is the sound level is too low. Apparently this is some EU regulation, power saving feature. It can be solved by using the optical cable connection which bypasses the volume control from the unit feeding the sound bar. This means you have to use the sound bar remote control in addition to the TV and set top box remotes. All I need is more remotes. Easy to install

Bought this to go with a new Sony smart TV because we knew the sound from modern skinny TV sets is not the best and have been very pleased. Its very easy to set up, just plug in the fibre optic cable provided and away you go. Sound quality is good with a separate volume control for the bass so you can add or reduce it to suit your requirements and the subwoofer is not too big so we can hide it behind out TV. Not had reason to use the USB input yet but the Bluetooth works well from my tablet. Only downside is the need for another remote control.Read full review

Sony Sound Bar Excellence!

I decided i needed better audio control on my Sony Bravia TV as when i played videos the music was in front of the action and speech....soooooo annoying!! When i put sound up my TV 'rattled' and became impossible to control ....
I researched Sony sound bar and the HT-CT80 soundbar and woofer seemed to be the answer......expensive but you can buy on ebay for half the cost and i would sooner do that than buy other new products pertaining to being good soundbars...i was lucky and got one new and unopened -an unwanted gift....took 15 mins to set up.

As i am writing this the audio in my tv is revolutionised!!! seriously smooth digital sound no more mumbling actors and no vibrations on loud sound......so back to it going thru some great movies with surround sound....what a difference...the sound comes thru the tv your video and also thru PS3/PS4 which i use for Netflix amazon Now tv and iplayer etc.....

Easy to set up

I have found the Sony HT-CT80 to be a brilliant product.
The sound for me is just right, It can be a great mellow sound, enhancing my T.V
With the addition of USB I can play my MP3 files.
The price of this sound bar is also excellent for the quality of sound you get
