Sony ICF-CD543RM 4-Band Under Cabinet Kitchen CD Clock Radio - Silver

Great product

Sony no longer makes under-cabinet CD players. Only cheap brands make them anymore. I found out that back in the day, the new price on this model was about $20 - $30 higher than the ICF-CD543RM. So I assumed it was a better model. I am glad for my choice. Besides, this player has a thinner "visible" profile than most, as you hardly see the speakers just looking at the unit, after it's mounted. Poor Physical Mounting Design

The Good: The sound. The disc player works well.
The Fair: When power is lost, all preset stations and the clock time go away and must be reset.
Tuning is slow as you push the button many, many times to advance through the FM and AM frequency bands. Reception in our interior kitchen is not all that good, the antenna is in the power cord, so we had to move the cord all over the place and then secure it in place to get good reception on any band.
The Poor: The mounting design is fragile and poor! Three screws are supposed to carry the weight, and each screw mates with a tiny nut held by a plastic circular post deep inside the radio. It is so easy to tear that tiny nut out of the plastic post that holds it while screwing in the mounting screws, and once you open the radio and go inside you see what a poor fragile mounting screw design that is here. My solution in the end was to drill a hole all the way through the radio from top to bottom (it does not hit anything vital inside), get three longer screws to go all the way through the radio and out the bottom, and put the nuts (with washers) under the radio where the screws came out. You hardly see this solution as the radio is hidden under the kitchen cabinet.Read full review

Great sound and design

So well made with Sony speakers, bass range, even if it is such an old product it actually has a band where you could pick up analog TV station sound. No other under cabinet radio made today has both AM /FM radio and good sound. No Bluetooth but other than that a good product. We used our old one till the buttons wore out. High Quality Kitchen Radio

Bought this after doing lots of reviews online to replace 25 yr old GE under counter radio. Beautiful sound, very easy to install( had to make my own template but no big deal there).
