A riveting encounter with Native American life and spirit in a new era

This film, which made its theater run thirty years ago, was one of my favorite films of the decade. Earthy, moving, dramatic, and eerie all at once, it contains performances by Graham Greene, Sam Shepard, Val Kilmer, Sheila Tousey, John Trudell, Julius Drum, and Ted Thin Elk that are trenchant and unforgettable. My lifelong fascination with indigenous Indian culture was nourished wonderfully by this film, which I just watched again with my son's mother. She was as taken with it as I am. Read full review

by TOP CRITICAL REVIEW

Interesting crime movie title for a movie set in a very interesting setting!

Forerunner to TV Longmaire Series

The entertainment media needs to shed light on Indian life on an
Indian Reservation. Indians living on Reservations have a way of life
that is uniquely different to most Americans. It would be interesting
to have an American Indian writer, director, and actors produce and star
in their own production (movie).

A solid story of Native Americans and clash with big gov––who saves who––there's more than money.

Very good character development. Solid story. Interesting, hidden unknown environment and social dynamic on the reservation, politics, greed––and personal change for the better. Graham Greene is fun and compelling. Val reveals potential of character, and Shep is a SOB. Enjoy the heck out of this movie. Read full review

The title is the point of the movie

This is an old favorite, but it remains one of the finest movies I’ve ever seen. Besides great plot and characters and lots of action, it has a lot of depth and is very moving.

Whodunnit with a great cast

The story seems a realistic take on how we continue to abuse a downtrodden people. Throw in a little mysticism, and humor with great acting and its all up in my wheelhouse!

Truth reigns in this movie. Very accurate reality on uranium;
tribal differences, major health crisis, pollution, and greedy people. The truth is shown with respect to the problems resulting from greed. Great must watch must have movie.Read full review

Addresses Native American Issues

Excellent movie - addresses native American issues. Val Kilmer, who is part NA, is an unwilling pawn of unscrupulous tribal members and the government, as an FBI agent trying to clear a homicide on the reservation. Eye opener.Read full review
