Extremely well made and priced right for the digital market.

Exactly what I was looking for. Easy to program, performs better than I imagined, self programs to most known frequencies in adjacent states near me, works with both P25 and analog freqs automatically, long battery life, is a quality product, you can't go wrong with Uniden!!Read full review

King of the scanner hill

TrunkTracker VI (this product) and TrunkTracker X (the SDS line) are the industry-leading top-of-the-line scanner engines. The BCD436HP is now a good value for doing just about anything a modern scanner can do, with local simulcast issues being the only thing that might make the SDS line worth the extra money.Read full review

Most capable handheld scanner

With the firmware updates for ProVoice (free) and DMR (paid), this scanner offers the most scanning capability available in a handheld in the present scanner market. It is best programmed using the free Sentinel software. If you have never had a Home Patrol style scanner before, there is a learning curve, but the effort will pay off handsomely.

uniden BCD436HP.

this is the most expensive scanner ive ever purchased. hoping i dont drop it. but it does recieve far more encrypted narrow band channels. can now listen to state police, federal marshals, my local drug cops chasing methheads. it is easy to operate but i do know the data bank doesnt list all the local freqs as i have been recording them now for twenty years. still learning how to operate this new software but it is far simpler than my old bc246t which is a nightmare to program. i do like this scanner. is it a good value only you can decide. i suggest if your serious about this item to purchase a base antenna and then you can hear calls that are amazing far away. this scanner does consume 3 good AAA batteries in about six hours of usage. good luck. really dont like the led backlight. its on the wrong key and if you hit it wrong it shuts down the scanner. its a slat grey in color and makes it hard to see the black characters. Nice hand held scanner.

Looking for a small hand held portable scanner. This fit the bill. A little bit larger than a Kenwood tk3180. Will upgrade antenna to get better reception. It does eat batteries so get some rechargeable ones. Have not used the sentinel software yet to upgrade and program. It works good enough out of the box. Listening to local fire, police. Very cool. Happy with my purchase.Read full review

Scanner

Well it is easy as far as zip code. But the rest of it can be difficult. It covers many systems and that can be tricky. Most of the frequencies you can't here because many things are encrypted now.after a couple weeks I learned a lot. I have had many scanners all my life. This kind is a lot more technical.Read full review

Pricey, even when used. But worth not having to mess with programming a trunking radio yourself.

Good radio! Just enter the zip code and it works, its that easy. After a while you can start playing with the other features, which are MANY.

I expected more

It's a good team. However, in countries other than the United States and Canada, like mine, it has little functionality and many operational limitations. The antenna that brings the equipment is not a good option for interiors. I had better expectations.Read full review

Best scanner I've had so far

Best scanner I have owned in my lifetime of many many models. This little wonder can do so much already and I haven't yet mastered its many features, I do recommend doing your research by reading the manual and watching videos to help you figure out the much different methodology for programming and using this scanner effectively, but after you gain a basic understanding of how it works it is a very useful instrument for monitoring many many different agencies and users.
I especially like the ability to program specific radio or unit numbers into the talkgroups, although it is a very time-consuming task to get done. The audio quality and receptive qualities are outstanding for its size and a much improved feature is the public safety-grade heavy plastic used in the case construction naking it drop-damage resistant.
I would recommend using a plastic screen protector to avoid scratches, in my case I used a short strip of clear packing tape and it has prevented scratches to the screen several times already.
Overall this was a pricy purchase but the scanner does everything it claims to do and more, Great purchase decision.

Beginner take note!

I have had a BCD 396T since 2005 and was pretty fluent in programming it. This unit works differently and has a steeper learning curve. The location searching is fine, so long as you can filter out what is of no interest. No regrets. Getting the hang of it. Enjoy!Read full review
