Three months ago the 320 GB hard drive in my 2010 Mac Mini failed. I had backups, and the pictures and documents were on an external drive anyway, but I had just lost a working computer. I replaced it with a newer Mac Mini, but there was the old one, that could be made to work with a new drive. I ordered this 500 GB solid state drive, and when it came I opened up the old Mac Mini, took out the old drive and put this one in. Perks up an old tire computer system.

Sometimes you just need a solid basic drive to boot from, especially when dealing with an older unit that you want to keep running. The transition from a tired old hard drive to one of these is likely to greatly improve the user experience. Boot times for me are a 1/4th the time or better. Your milage may vary. Good value for the price.

I wanted to speed up booting on my old Thinkcentre. This certainly did that. It was listed as open box. That was accurate as it tests as 100% of life left.

Cloning was easy with free software. I only needed to reinstall two drivers after switching in the new drive.

Very Good SSD For Users On A Budget

The WD Blue PC SSD is a budget SSD. It's performance is not as high as SSDs from premium makers like Samsung. However, it is still much, much faster than any spinning mechanical hard drive. It has the basic features that are required for good (not great) performance. One nice extra is the software suite you can download for free that alows you to monitor the drive and enable performance enhancers like TRIM. Strangley, this software does not enable you to initilize or format the drive, which you need to do in Windows disk management. For general computing, this drive will meet your needs. Power users should pay more for the more robust construction and features of advanced drives like the Samsung 860 or 870 EVO. I now own three of these drives and use them as boot drives in low cost desktop computers. Their performance is good. In my opinion, you will not be dissapointed with this drive as long as you accept their limitations made nessessary by their low price.Read full review

Western Digital solid state drive.

My new Western Digital SSD was delivered quickly and was exactly as described. Installation into my Dell laptop went smoothly and in a very short time I had Windows 10 up and running. The boot up process of my computer went from slower then slow to blazing fast. I am amazed at how fast this thing loads and runs all my programs and all at a very affordable price. This one new drive has made upgrading my pc totally unnecessary. So far, for me, it's been all good and I have not had a single problem but only time will tell how well that goes. Speedy laptop

After cloning old hard drive computer boots up in about 6 seconds instead of waiting what seemed like forever also programs run smoothly. Saves on laptop battery power also.

SSD works perfectly on older Dell laptop with minor modification (Windows 10).

The SSD works perfect (super quiet) - Win 10 loads so much faster now on an older Dell E6410 laptop. I did have to add a 0.06" shim (blank PCB material) to make the SSD lineup with the laptop SATA connector.
I believe all of the SSD available need the shim for this older laptop. The SSD did not have a screw-boss location for one of the existing laptop mounting screws (not a big deal as the other 2 mounting screws lined-up perfectly).Read full review
